Sheraton Hyannis Marathon Expecting Record Turnout
Potential Record Breakers Will be in Attendance
Two weeks until race time and the Sheraton Hyannis Marathon, Half
Marathon & Penfield's Twin Brooks Marathon Team Relay is
heading for a runners field not seen in 10 years... runners from
19 states have committed to this New England Running Tradition as
of this release... with many running the Sheraton Hyannis Marathon
in hopes of qualifying for the final slots in the 2001 Boston
Marathon or the Sheraton Hyannis Half Marathon in preparation for
the 2001 Boston Marathon.
The men's marathon course record of 2:26:51, held since 1995, by
Mike Slinskey of Wappinger Falls, New York, is in jeopardy of being
broken by either Dan Verrington of Bradford, Massachusetts who has
a marathon PR of 2:21 or Jose Moriera of Marcolino, Brazil who has
a marathon PR of 2:17:24. There is a $500.00 prize for a new marathon
course record man/woman.
The 1999 Chancelor Challenge 100Km winner and top New England masters
runner Jim Garcia of Westford, Massachusetts has also committed.
There are currently 500+ signed up for the Sheraton Half Marathon,
225+ for the Sheraton Hyannis Marathon and 25 teams for the Penfield's
Twin Brooks Marathon Team Relay.
