'St. Jude Memphis Marathon' becomes first major marathon
                     to benefit single charity

MEMPHIS, TENN. (March 1, 2002) Memphis' only marathon takes a different
course this year as organizers with the Memphis Runners Track Club join St.
Jude Children's Research Hospital® to host the "St. Jude Memphis Marathon,"
presented by Juice Plus+®. This is the first major marathon to benefit a
single charity.
The St. Jude Memphis Marathon will take place on Saturday, December 7,
with a 26.2 mile course starting and finishing in downtown. The double loop
course will pass many of Memphis' historic landmarks including Beale Street,
Sun Studio and the National Civil Rights Museum, giving runners a scenic
route through the heart of downtown, South Bluffs and Overton Park. A half
marathon covering 13.1 miles is also a new addition this year. Both courses
finish in AutoZone Park, home of the Memphis Redbirds AAA baseball team.
Prize money totaling $50,000 will be awarded.
This year's event will also feature a two-day expo, pasta party, an
awards ceremony and finale party featuring Memphis music and cuisine.
"St. Jude is honored to be the beneficiary of this world-class
marathon," said David L. McKee, chief operating officer of ALSAC, the
fund-raising arm of St. Jude. "Our mission is about saving the lives of
children, and runners from across the world will have the opportunity to be
a part of this miracle."
The entry fee for the full marathon is $75 and $50 for the half
marathon. All proceeds benefit the treatment and research conducted at St.
Jude Children's Research Hospital, the world's largest pediatric cancer
research center. For more information, please call the St. Jude Memphis
Marathon toll free hotline at 888-401-7252.
