FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DICK'S Sporting Goods Sponsors the First Greater Binghamton Marathon,
to Benefit the Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park
DICK'S Sporting Goods is sponsoring the inaugural Greater Binghamton
Marathon at 3010 Old Vestal Road, Vestal, NY on Sunday September 20th at
7:30am.
Runners can register for the inaugural marathon at
www.BinghamtonMarathon.com. The cost of registration starts at $70.
Families are invited to come down to enjoy the festivities and cheer on all
the runners. Highlights include live music, free giveaways, food, many
vendors, and design your own T-shirts onsite.
Fall is the absolute best time of year to run in Central New York to see
all the beautiful colors. The 26.2 mile course is mostly flat and runs
alongside the enchanting Susquehanna River, starting in Vestal (next to
Matthews Import Center at the field on Old Vestal Rd behind Lowe's) and
continues through the entire Vestal Rail Trail and to the Town of Owego via
Route 434. The Marathon will be USATF (USA Track and Field) certified and
also a Boston Marathon qualifier.
The average runner will run the course in about four hours and thirty
minutes.
Organizers say that support is coming from local and state police to assist
in superior safety measures and have implemented many rules and regulations
for the utmost safety of all the runners and spectators on the course.
Organizer William Safarik says, "The marathon will take place with close to
70 volunteers. We are so fortunate to have such a great community! We came
up with the idea of a full marathon for the Greater Binghamton area to not
only promote running and a healthy life style but to grow our community to
be a better place for generations to come. A portion of the proceeds will
benefit a local charity partner every year to help them expand to make our
local community a great one."
Cash prizes will be awarded for the first place Male and Female finishers.
The first year's proceeds will benefit the Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park who
will be onsite with many amazing animals from the Zoo Mobile. The
Binghamton Zoo is a non-profit organization that is a living museum
dedicated to conservation, education, recreation and the exhibiting of
animals in a quality manner. The Binghamton Zoo is the nation's 5th oldest
zoo, established in the year 1875 and offers a wide variety of animals to
see and learn about.
Organizers are expecting hundreds of runners, and thousands of spectators
at the inaugural marathon and are hoping weather forecasts will be
favorable.
