Qualifiers May Submit Application for Entry from
Monday, September 19 through Friday, September 23.

BOSTON - The first week of the B.A.A.'s new registration process for the
2012 Boston Marathon is now closed. For the second week, anyone who has met
their qualifying time may submit an application for entry beginning Monday,
Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. ET and continuing through Friday, Sept. 23 at 5 p.m.
ET. Entry is NOT first come, first served, and accepted entrants will be
informed at the conclusion of this period. The official web site to submit
an application for entry is www.baa.org.

"We are very pleased that the opportunity to enter the 2012 Boston Marathon
remains open to yet more athletes who have trained so hard and run so well
over the past 18 months," said B.A.A. Executive Director Tom Grilk. "It is
both humbling and motivating to us at the B.A.A. that people want to come
run in Boston. Everyone who qualifies for the Boston Marathon has our
enormous respect, and we appreciate the cooperation marathoners have
displayed through the implementation of our new registration process."

The verification process of qualifying performances for those who submitted
an application for entry into the 2012 Boston Marathon through 10:00 p.m.
ET on Saturday, Sept. 17 is in progress. Email notification of acceptance
and posting of names to the "Entrants" page of www.baa.org will be
forthcoming for those among this group. This step necessarily occurs after
the conclusion of each stage in the new registration process which the
B.A.A. has implemented.

Due to field size limitations, it is probable that not all qualifiers who
submit an entry during the second week (Sept. 19 – Sept. 23) will be
accepted. Those both accepted and not accepted for entry also will receive
an email from the B.A.A. at the conclusion of the application period.

Established in 1887, the Boston Athletic Association is a non-profit
organization with a mission of managing athletic events and promoting a
healthy lifestyle through sports, especially running. The B.A.A.'s Boston
Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon, and the organization
manages other local events and supports comprehensive charity, youth, and
year-round running programs. Since 1986, the principal sponsor of the
Boston Marathon has been John Hancock Financial. The Boston Marathon is
part of the World Marathon Majors along with the Virgin London Marathon,
BMW Berlin Marathon, Bank of America Chicago Marathon, and the ING New York
City Marathon.
