      B.A.A. Updates Participants on Running in Monday's Boston Marathon

At a media availability at Noon today, the B.A.A. provided an update on the 
Boston Marathon with regard to the weather conditions.

B.A.A. Executive Director Tom Grilk informed the media that the B.A.A. has 
implemented a deferment option for Monday's race, whereby official entrants 
who pick up their bib at the John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo at the 
Seaport World Trade Center and who do not start the race can register to 
run the 2013 Boston Marathon.  He also stated the B.A.A. will keep its 
finish systems open an extra hour on race day (until approximately 6:00

Also at the media availability, B.A.A. Co-Medical Director Pierre 
d'Hemecourt, MD, advised official entrants who have pre-existing medical 
conditions of which they are aware and inexperienced marathoners to 
strongly consider not running on Monday.  He also advised that only

Boston Marathon Race Director Dave McGillivray spoke about the B.A.A.'s 
specific preparations in cooperation with the Commonwealth of 
Massachusetts, the eight cities and towns along the Boston Marathon route, 
the B.A.A. Medical Team, and various state, city and town agencies to 
provide services to the Boston Marathon.

The B.A.A. has provided communication to participants with all of these 
details and has also provided recommendations with running on Monday in 
warm weather conditions, including direct email, posting information online 
and servicing questions from runners at the expo.
