Grandma's Marathon Expands Field to 9,300;
Launches Online Auction Benefiting Tsunami Relief Efforts
Duluth, Minn.: Grandma's Marathon reached its original field limit of 9,000
registered participants today, however in an effort to allow additional
runners to have the opportunity to run the 26.2-mile race, organizers have
decided to accept 300 more applicants.
"We feel that we can safely expand the field a little, and still provide
the highest quality of event possible," says Scott Keenan, executive
director of Grandma's Marathon. "We're really excited about the decision,
and about welcoming 300 more runners in June to experience Grandma's
Marathon and the wonderful hospitality that the Twin Ports community
extends to our race participants."
Applications for the additional spots will be taken on a first come, first
serve basis. Entry forms can be downloaded and printed off of the Grandma's
Marathon web site at www.grandmasmarathon.com/registration. They can also
be obtained at several locations throughout the Twin Ports including Wells
Fargo Bank Duluth, Target Stores and Austin-Jarrow. The entry fee for the
race is $65.00.
In addition to the expansion, Grandma's Marathon is launching an online
auction today to benefit Tsunami Relief Efforts. The auction can be
accessed at http://auction.grandmasmarathon.com, and features lifetime
entries into Grandma's Marathon and the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon,
guaranteed entries into the 2005 races, Grandma's Marathon Weekend packages
and much more. The auction will end on Thursday, March 3, 2005.
