Grandma's Marathon Donates $6,000 to Red Cross
(Duluth, Minn.) Grandma's Marathon is a making a $6,000 contribution to
assist Red Cross relief efforts in the southeastern United States and
Japan, following the recent natural disasters in those areas.
The funds were raised through a special program in which an additional 60
entries were made available for the 2011 Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon.
Runners not selected in the 2011 half-marathon lottery were given the
opportunity to obtain one of the 60 spots for a $100 fee.
Grandma's Marathon is allocating the entire $6,000 raised to the Red Cross.
The donation will be split between the U.S. and Japan relief efforts.
"As an organization, it is important for us to step forward whenever
possible. We are in a position to help and we find it necessary to do our
part to assist those affected by these horrible events," said Scott Keenan,
executive director of Grandma's Marathon.
Grandma's Marathon staff and board members will present the $6,000 to Red
Cross representatives Thursday, May 26 at 11 a.m. at the Northland Chapter
of the American Red Cross, 2524 Maple Grove Road in Duluth.
