2012 Marsh Nelson Media Award Announced
(Duluth, Minn.) Grandma's Marathon has announced Pat Cadigan as the
recipient of the 2012 Marsh Nelson Media Award.
A broadcasting icon in the Twin Ports, Cadigan has hosted the morning show
on KDAL Radio for more than 30 years. He was the original starting
announcer for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon when the race began in 1991
and continued in that role for the next 15 years.
The award will be presented at the 13th annual Marsh Nelson Media Luncheon
and Award Ceremony on Friday, June 15, in the Lake Superior Ballroom at the
Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC).
The award is given annually to a media member or group to recognize
outstanding commitment to the coverage and development of Grandma's
Marathon. This special award is named in memory of former KDLH-TV sports
director Marsh Nelson for his tremendous passion for covering Grandma's
Marathon and other local athletic events.
2012 Grandma's Marathon Weekend Registration Update
The entry numbers for the 2012 Grandma's Marathon weekend races are
official.
Grandma's Marathon has 7,641 registrants signed up for the race's 36th
running. The nation's 13th largest marathon is Saturday, June 16 at 7:45
a.m.
The USA Half Marathon Championships – which Grandma's Marathon is hosting
this year and again in 2013 – has 203 entrants (120 men, 83 women).
The weekend's other two races, the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and the
William A. Irvin 5K, both have a record number of entries. The half
marathon has 7,628 participants registered and the 5K has 1,939. In all,
17,411 are signed up to participate in the weekend's races.
