2013 Marsh Nelson Media Award Announced
(Duluth, Minn.) Grandma's Marathon has announced Dan Moller as the
recipient of its 2013 Marsh Nelson Media Award.
The publishing systems manager at the Duluth News Tribune, Moller is
responsible for the assembling and formatting the paper's special marathon
section that is published the day after Grandma's Marathon. The section
includes the individual names of all of the weekend's finishers, along with
race stories and photos.
August of 2013 will mark Moller's 40th year with the Duluth News Tribune.
The award will be presented at the 14th annual Marsh Nelson Media Luncheon
and Award Ceremony on Friday, June 21, in the Lake Superior Ballroom at the
Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC).
The award is given annually to a media member or group to recognize
outstanding commitment to the coverage and development of Grandma's
Marathon. This special award is named in memory of former KDLH-TV sports
director Marsh Nelson for his tremendous passion for covering Grandma's
Marathon and other local athletic events.
2013 Grandma's Marathon Weekend Registration Update
The entry numbers for the 2013 Grandma's Marathon weekend races are
official.
Grandma's Marathon has 7,388 registrants signed up for the race's 37th
running. The nation's 14th largest marathon is Saturday, June 22 at 7:45
a.m.
The USA Half Marathon Championships - which Grandma's Marathon is hosting
for the second straight year - has 231 entrants (162 men, 69 women).
The weekend's other two races, the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and the
William A. Irvin 5K, both have a record number of entries. The half
marathon has 7,835 participants registered and the 5K has 1,998. In all,
17,402 are signed up to participate in the weekend's races.
