2015 MARSH NELSON MEDIA AWARD ANNOUNCED
Grandma's Marathon has announced the recipient of its 2015 Marsh Nelson
Media Award.
The 2015 recipient is Townsquare Media, the radio broadcast partner of
Grandma's Marathon since 2007. One of Townsquare Media's four Twin Ports
stations, ESPN Radio 560 WEBC, provides live race coverage of Grandma's
Marathon and the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon. WEBC, B105, KOOL 101.7 and
MIX 108 all provide promotional support throughout the year.
ESPN Radio 560 WEBC will feature live race-day coverage beginning at 6 a.m.
on Saturday, June 20. Among those commentating are two-time Grandma's
Marathon champions Dick Beardsley and Doug Kurtis, and 2004 Olympian Carrie
Tollefson.
The award will be presented at the 16th annual Marsh Nelson Media Luncheon
and Award Ceremony on Friday, June 19, in the Lake Superior Ballroom at the
Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC).
The award is given annually to a media member or group to recognize
outstanding commitment to the coverage and development of Grandma's
Marathon. This special award is named in memory of former KDLH-TV sports
director Marsh Nelson for his tremendous passion for covering Grandma's
Marathon and other local athletic events.
2015 Grandma's Marathon Weekend Registration Update
The entry numbers for the 2015 Grandma's Marathon weekend races are
official.
Grandma's Marathon has 7,794 registrants signed up for the race's 39th
running. The nation's 13th largest marathon is Saturday, June 20 at 7:45
a.m.
The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon has 8,358 participants registered and the
William A. Irvin 5K has 1,836. In all, 17,988 are signed up to participate
in the three-race weekend, presented by Wells Fargo and Toyota.
