NEW YORK ATHLETIC CLUB THE NEW HOME OF THE
NEW YORK CITY MARATHON RACE DAY PRESS CENTER
NEW YORK, July 30 - The historic New York Athletic Club (NYAC) will be
the new home of race day press headquarters for the 2002 New York City
Marathon on Sunday, November 3, it was announced today by New York Road
Runner (NYRR) officials.
The new race day media center located on the 9th floor of the majestic
NYAC building overlooking Central Park South, near Seventh Avenue and the
final steps of the 26.2-mile race, will feature expanded and improved
working and interview space for the hundreds of journalists from around
the world who are expected to report on the 33rd running of the
five-borough race.
The change of venue for the race day press headquarters is the first in
twelve years for the New York City Marathon.
"This is the perfect joint venture between two well known New York
establishments. We are thrilled about our new race day home and hope we
can continue to work with the New York Athletic Club in the future," said
Allan Steinfeld, president and CEO of the NYRR and New York City Marathon
race director.

headquarters for the New York City Marathon. One of the largest annual
events in New York City, the Marathon draws tens of thousands of athletes
and visitors from around the world to our great city," said Alfred H.
Green, President of NYAC. "Our club, founded in 1868 and home to winners
of 117 Olympic Gold Medals, is dedicated to the support of amateur
athletics and welcomes the opportunity to showcase our world class
facilities to the working press and to our friends at New York Road
Runners."

The New York City Marathon is the premiere event of New York Road Runners
(NYRR), the world's foremost running organization. Each year 30,000
participants from all 50 states and over 100 countries around the globe
come to New York to be cheered on by 2.5 million spectators as they take
part in this prestigious event. With a full-time staff of more than 60
employees and over 12,000 volunteers the New York City Marathon is the
country's most watched one day sporting event.
