MINNESOTA MUSIC'S TIM MAHONEY BAND TO HEADLINE
MEDTRONIC TWIN CITIES MARATHON, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2006
Race Day Filled With Entertainment Along Entire Marathon Course

(Minneapolis, MN) - Minnesota music sensation Tim Mahoney Band will welcome
runners as they cross the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon finish line
October, 1st, 2006.

Mahoney's sound has been likened to the Gin Blossoms, Hootie and the
Blowfish, and Freddy Jones Band. The critically acclaimed band will play
in the 27th Mile (the finish area) for runners and spectators Sunday
afternoon. "The 25th Anniversary needs special entertainment and Tim
Mahoney Band adds that extra element of excitement," said Virginia Brophy
Achman, Executive Director, Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon.

Alan Page will kick off the music with his tuba again this year at Mile 2.
Special appearances from musical groups take place from Mile 2 to the 27th
Mile, including the Klezmer Band, Calhoun Isles Dixieland Band, Robbinsdale
City Band, Drum Hearts, Stevie West, Seward Concert Band, University of
Minnesota Marching Band, Minnesota Accordion Club, Deep Burple, Outliers,
St. Paul Postal Band, Jim Sherman (bagpiper), Matt Christensen (singer).
Music from Cities 97 and KOOL 108 will be featured at Miles 5 and 9 and
there will also be music at water stops along the route. "Entertainment
along the course really motivates the runners and the wheelers. We are
grateful that all of our entertainers continue to come out to celebrate and
recognize the efforts of all of our participants, "Achman said.

Thousands of spectators will line the course again this year, adding their
own versions of fun to the day. With the addition of Cheer Zones,
spectators will give runners historic reminders of the 25 years of marathon
history, as they showcase fashion, culture and music in subsequent
five-year periods from 1982-2006 along every five miles of the course.

Spectators can get a historic look at the marathon, pre-race day. Previous
Twin Cities Marathon t-shirts, posters, medals and other items from each of
the 24 years of the marathon will be part of a special 25th Anniversary
celebration taking place in the ING Health and Fitness Expo, Friday and
Saturday, September 29-30 in the Saint Paul RiverCentre.

The 2006 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon weekend will take place Sept. 29 -
Oct. 1, 2006. The three-day weekend celebration of fitness includes a 5K
run/walk, children's fun runs, pasta dinner, health and fitness expo and
Medtronic TC 10 Mile, in addition to the marathon. The race continues its
16th consecutive year as the designated USATF National Masters Championship
for both men and women and will also host the USATF men's and women's open
Marathon Championships. Other Major sponsors include Capella University
and ING. Twin Cities Marathon, Inc. is a non-profit organization that
directs race weekend as a community service for the Minneapolis/St. Paul
area. Visit www.mtcmarathon.org for more information.
