TWIN CITIES MARATHON, INC. INCREASES PARTNERSHIP WITH
TEAM USA MINNESOTA
Silver level sponsorship to help training center continue development
of future Olympic distance runners.
MINNEAPOLIS – April 18, 2007 – Twin Cities Marathon, Inc. (TCM) has
increased its financial support of Team USA Minnesota and extended its
partnership through 2007. The partnership strengthens the training center's
mission to improve competition in distance events ranging from the 1500
meters up through the marathon and to develop Olympians.
As part of the partnership, Team USA Minnesota athletes will continue to
participate in Twin Cities Marathon, Inc. running events as schedules
permit including the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, Medtronic TC 10 Mile,
the TC 5k and the Medtronic TC 1 Mile. During the Target Pharmacy Health &
Fitness Expo Oct. 5-6, team athletes will also take part in a panel
discussion.
In addition, Team USA Minnesota athletes will be involved with the
year-round Medtronic TC Kids Marathon schools program, promoting health and
fitness for schools and families throughout Minnesota and Western
Wisconsin.
"TCM, Inc. is proud to support American distance running and our
partnership with Team USA Minnesota furthers that goal," said Virginia
Brophy Achman, Twin Cities Marathon, Inc. executive director. "The athletes
involved with this program are exemplary, not only in competitions but in
the community as well. This partnership is a reflection of our shared
mission to support the sport of distance running."
The renewal of the partnership continues the relationship that began in
2001 shortly after the Team USA Minnesota Distance Training Center was
founded. The program currently has 12 athletes including 2004 Olympian
Carrie Tollefson and four national champions.
"On behalf of our athletes, we are pleased that Twin Cities Marathon, Inc.
has increased its support of our training program," said Pat Goodwin, Team
USA Minnesota president. "We certainly look forward to strengthening our
ongoing partnership throughout 2007 as we prepare our distance runners for
the upcoming 2008 Olympic Trials in the marathon and on the track."
