Spectators forming 2007 cheer zones to line marathon course
Cash awards available to donate to neighborhood schools, non-profit
associations or recreation/community centers
(Minneapolis, MN) – Spectators along the 26.2 mile Medtronic Twin Cities
Marathon course are already building excitement as they detail their plans
for their 2007 Cheer Zone, part of the Cheer Zone contest that takes place
Sunday, October 7. Again this year, Twin Cities Marathon, Inc. is hosting
the Cheer Zone contest, offering cash awards to the top three winners to be
donated to a neighborhood school, non-profit association or
recreation/community center.
In its second year, the Cheer Zone contest is a way to recognize the
neighborhoods that come out to support runners each year. "The Twin Cities
has an outstanding reputation for spectator involvement," said Twin Cities
Marathon executive director Virginia Brophy Achman. "The Medtronic Twin
Cities Marathon is inviting neighborhood organizations and residents along
the course to pull out all the stops to cheer on the runners and take part
in the 2007 CHEER ZONE Contest."
Those interested in creating an Official Cheer Zone can register for free
by August 1st. Each cheer zone will be given a cheer zone starter kit with
Thunder Sticks, spectator guides and decorating ideas to get creativity
started. Official Cheer Zones will be judged on creativity and enthusiasm.
Cash prizes will be awarded with $750 going to the first-place winners,
$500 to second and $250 to third. Please note that prize money won by
individuals will be donated to a non-profit neighborhood association,
recreation or school of their choice. Visit mtcmarathon.org for more
details and to register by August 1st.
