REGISTRATION OPEN FOR STATE CAPITOL 5K & FAMILY EVENTS
Minneapolis, Minnesota – August 22, 2002 – Registration for the State
Capitol 5K & Family Events, scheduled for Saturday, September 28, is open.
Family events include fun for children of all ages, including the
Creamette® Kids’ One-Mile and the Galyan’s Kids’ Half-Mile Fun Runs, as
well as the K102 Toddler Trot and the Lakeshirts' Diaper Dash. All events
are held near the State Capitol on September 28th and promise fun for the
entire family.
This year’s 5K fun run/walk, presented by Seagate Technology, is a great
way to get involved in the marathon, without running the entire 26.2 miles.
Participants will take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes to finish the event,
which has a limited registration field. Regardless of finish times, the
fun run offers enjoyment for people of all abilities.
"The State Capitol 5K & Family Events offer something for everyone in the
family," says Marlee Meshbesher, State Capitol 5K & Family Events Chair.
"The weekend really caters to people of all ages and abilities."
Colorful T-shirts and post-race refreshments are guaranteed to every State
Capitol 5K & Family Events participant. There will be special appearances
by various entertainers including Goldie Gopher and Cooper, the Gold’n
Plump Chicken. Additional activities, including arts and crafts and a
petting zoo, offer plenty of entertainment for the whole family. State
Capitol tours will be available at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and noon.

The 2002 TCM weekend is September 27-29. TCM will host the 2002 USA Men’s,
Women’s and Masters Marathon Championships. The three-day weekend
celebration of fitness includes a 5K fun run/walk, children’s fun runs, a
pasta dinner, a two-day health and fitness expo, and a 10-mile race in
addition to the marathon. Major corporate sponsors for the marathon are
Cub Foods, Calhoun Beach Club and Seagate Technology. The major media
