COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 To be clear, I ran the half marathon on New Year's Day 2024. Everything involved, from the course to the organization of the event far surpassed any and all expectations I may have had. Us 'halfers' shared the same course as the full marathon runners. We just started 15 minutes later on the 'out & back' style course. By the time I started my second lap, there were many points that I was alone for a few minutes here and there and the event felt like a joyful Sunday jog through the beautiful neighborhood. The post race meetup location featured such goodies as the routine bananas and chocolate milk, but also delicious pizza and Chik-Fil-A! Mr. & Mrs. Boone have done an absolutely masterful job with this fabulous race!

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This is a very special small race. The race directors are totally dedicated to their runners as first priority. Super swag, enthusiastic volunteers; and a fun, flat course. The race site is about 20 min from the airport. The race is FREE to active duty military. Special recognition is given to runners if the race marks a special occasion or running milestone. You will make many new friends at this race. Pizza at the finish! I hope to return to run in 2022.

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 ONLY Steve and Paula Boone can organize a race like this...with great volunteers, easy and affordable registration and super swag...and I love the 4 loops - varied, pretty, and you develop relationships with runners that you see often and so can encourage each other. Most pleasing is how you meet people - hello Rebecca from Kansas you Rock Star YOU - and how well Paula acknowledges achievements amongst the crowd...as one who is lucky enough to be on a first name basis with Steve and Paula - I am proud and pleased to have run my first race of the year with these great ambassadors of our unique sport.

"Great!!" (about: 2019)

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I traveled from out of town to do this race. Everything and everyone was amazing. The aid stations were well stocked, the lovely scenery, to the neighbors. My only suggestion would be considering changing the course...I was going a little insane being on trails for 26 miles. But other than that definitely one of the best!

"IT's the only way to start the New Year" (about: 2019)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Once again, Steve and Paula exceed expectations and this is THE only real race in America on New Year's Day and is a wonderful way to start the year. Between SnP - they have over 1,000 marathons to their credit and they always find new special ways to personalize the race, improve the draw, make logistics and planning as easy as can be and then reward you with THE largest, most sparkly medal anywhere in the world. It's a look course and I love it - as the size of this race enables you to 'bond' with runners of all ages, training and sizes and everyone is encouraging along the way. The swag bag, hat, jersey are all great, the aid stations well supplied, the timers are on spot and always calling out your name at every loop and the major aid station has every snack you want. Couple all this with starting comments to recognize all 50 staters and Maniacs, all 5-10-20 year veterans of this race, a wedding proposal and then most touching - to have all the runners sing the national anthem - and as this was marathon 152 for me - the only other time this has happened for me was in Chicago right after 9/11...it was a wonderful way to start the race and the New Year... Congrats again - Steve and Paula, you are both wonderful ambassadors for our special sport.!

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I have completed the full or half every year since 2009 except for 2014. That year my husband was ill & I stayed home. It is well run. The food at the end is great. I am a slower runner so the 'till dark time limit' is a big incentive. I plan to be there 1/1/2018. It will be marathon #94 for me.

"Excellent Marathon for a first timer or expert" (about: 2015)
4-5 previous marathons
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 While this race is small in size it comes with a lot of heart and soul. 700 runners for the marathon and half marathon. Not a lot of fanfare, but it is a beautiful out and back (lollipop) course, with excellent support. It was a 4-loop course for the full marathon. And while some may have gotten tired of the scenery, I thought it was gorgeous. Tree lined with views of a lake and upscale neighborhood. Lots to look at. They offer morning packet pickup, great swag, and HUGE medal. After the race (even for the slower runners/walkers) there was still hot pizza, drinks and cookies. They also offered mini PBJ sandwiches, oranges, bananas, nuts through out the race. And 4 different flavors of Gatorade. About the only changes I would suggest is they try and stagger the start even more to allow for the faster runners to get some space among the slower runners/walkers. Oh, and chocolate milk at the finish would have been nice. But otherwise, it was a wonderful day, even if it was 40 degrees and rainy.

"Great race on New Years Day!" (about: 2015)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 Great small marathon put on by the best race directors! Course is 4 loops on an urban paved trail through parks, beside big homes and around a lake. Course gets tight at times but after the first lap pretty much single file. Great aid stations and post race pizza. 2015 was perfect weather, cool for the first 3 hours then slight misty rain and got colder. otherwise awesome race and an incredible huge medal, more like a trophy!

"The Perfect First Marathon" (about: 2015)

| 1 Texas Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 As a newbie to running I was apprehensive about my first marathon. How lucky to find this one so close to home! Steve and Paula Boone are the perfect organizers: friendly, committed, happy, WELL ORGANIZED, dedicated to our wonderful veterans, and genuinely kind to ALL the runners. The FINISH MEDAL was awesome as was the little T-rex with my finish position stamped on it. Great support and an amazing number of spectators for a cold and rainy New Year's Day. |
