"Wonderful Race!" (about: 2007)

First Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

Ran the 1/2 marathon - it was so well done! Plenty of water stops, and they even had wet sponges, candies and PowerBars at the later mile marks. The medal was really nice quality too - cool! Mile 2 is a hard uphill run, but they warned us it was a hilly course. Very well organized, and wonderful volunteers - will be back next year!

I was in K.C. visiting my daughter a few days before driving to K.C. I noted that your race would be on when I was there and I could not stay away. I have done 20 marathons and 14 half marathons. Yours was well organized and run. The shirt for the half was a little disappointing but the other marathon gear was first-class. The course was challenging but scenic, the weather cooperated, and the race workers were excellent. I did miss having more spectators - maybe that will come with time. Unfortunately I was not able to stay around for the awards (I think I was second in my age, 60-65 for the half). Not sure if there was some award involved.... Will this be mailed to me? I have spread the word back in chilly Wisconsin about your race!!!

"Who hands out water in their underwear?" (about: 2007)

What a great route. The neighborhoods we ran through were scenic and well shaded. Aid stations were stocked and volunteers friendly - sometimes a little too friendly. Guys handing out water in their underwear at mile 13 were a little weird. My only complaint was that there weren't any clocks to gauge how you were doing. I was only able to keep pace by watching for the pace groups. Oh, and that long out-and-back in the second half was cruel. I've never been so tempted to cheat and cross the road. Otherwise, this was a great race.

I loved this race! It was my 2nd full marathon and I ran the half here last year. The volunteers were amazing! They were everywhere! I tore a muscle in my quad around the 11 and was determined to finish anyway. It was painful but a volunteer gave me a couple Advil at an aid station, which helped tremendously! There were tons of porta-potties along the course, which was also great. Also, to the other marathoners, I know it's like this at most races, but I loved the support from everyone running! Overall, a very well set up race! I was very impressed!

"My favorite marathon!" (about: 2007)

This was an outstanding race!! Very well organized. Beautiful course along the wide streets of the city with a few manageable hills. There were very lively spectators at the aid stations and cheering on the course. The biggest hill of the course is near the beginning and takes you up to Liberty Memorial, which was lovely at sunrise. The aid stations and finish line were well stocked. I have run many others - and even the Kansas City Marathon 5 years ago. This revamped event is a must as far as urban courses go!

"KC is first-class..." (about: 2007)

11-50 previous marathons | 3 Kansas City Marathons
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

I have run marathons all over the country and overseas and can say that KC is one of my favorites. The organization is outstanding. Although the spectators are sparse, they make up for it with enthusiasm. KC is the fastest-growing marathon in the country for a reason - they have their act together.

Love the medal. Love the post-race atmosphere. Loved everything.

"Very pretty city!" (about: 2007)

Who knew KC was such a pretty city? Loved all the fountains, views, pretty homes, etc. Hardly any spectators, but plenty of volunteers at EVERY side street calling out to the runners, and the aid station folks were great too!

Need a chip mat at the long out-and-back to stop cheaters like the girl dressed as Dorothy who crossed over the road to join her friend. Funny - she was greeted at the end by people with flowers, etc. Must have been her first and she CHEATED!

"Fantastic marathon, can't wait until next year." (about: 2007)

It was only my second marathon and this one I was running on my own. the beautiful course and sparse but terrific spectators kept me feeling relaxed and occupied the whole way. Hills were nothing like I had anticipated but enough to make it interesting. the finish was the best. loved the finishers shirt, and what a beautiful medal. Great job KC.

"experience of a lifetime" (about: 2007)

First Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

This was my first marathon so I didn't know what to expect. I feel that everything and more was provided for me so I could feel confident in my performance. The water, Gatorade, fruit, and snacks were provided throughout the race at just the right times for people to replenish electrolytes and fluids. I never felt thirsty between water stops because I took advantage of what was provided at each stop. The race was tough but the scenery was beautiful and the weather was perfect. The hills were at the beginning of the race so this made it easier to finish at the end. I was so pleased about how I was greeted at the end of the race with tents of food, beer, and spectators. The event planners really made the runner feel special. This was such an exciting experience.

I thought that this race, from the expo to the finish line, was top-notch. The course was scenic and challenging, and the staff and volunteers were attentive and knowledgeable. Nice work!
