COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 The overall weekend was good, but the course was not so great. The overpasses were hard on my knees and it was hilly to me. The people were great and at the end of the race we took pictures with the state capitol in the background, which was nice. The food and drink were good. The best part of the weekend was watching LSU women's basketball games there. I guess this was an ok Arkansas run. | |

 "Fantastic in spite of hills" (about: 2006)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 Ok, this was a rough marathon for me, being from Charleston, SC, which has no hills at all. But it was such a great weekend and marathon. I got to meet the governor of Arkansas at the perks tent, which is a great idea. And I saw marching ducks at the hotel I stayed at. The finisher's medal is awesome and you need exercises to wear it. I have already made hotel reservations for next year and as soon as registration opens I am there. This is a great marathon. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 I enjoyed the race; the course, the weather and all the water stops were manned well. Down by the river it is pretty bleak, with no spectators. My big gripe was the end-of-race refreshments. I have run 4 marathons and 2 half-marathons, and this was the worst set-up for food. I left the fenced area to talk to my family and friends and then needed to get some calories in and was told I would not be allowed to re-enter! The guy at the table handed me food over the fence. There is a better way! It was better last year when I did the half-marathon here in 2005. The race is worth doing and I would recommend it to anyone. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Can't wait 'till next year! I am a slower run/walker, so I started with the 6 a.m. group and we got police protection, enthusiastic water stops, etc. even before the regular start. Crowds were not big but they were cheering for all of us, especially after 9 a.m. The sights of Little Rock are interesting to look at as you go by - the famous Central High School, the capitol, governor's mansion, nice downtown, neighborhoods. A lull near the end out by the river might bore you but the finish downtown at the capitol is great. Since I started early, I got through in time to see the "Little Rockers" kids run their mile to complete their over-many-months 26.2 miles. That was a treat. Even saw the governor after the finish. This is a great smallish festive atmosphere - highly recommended. Short wait at one porta-potty stop and crowded packet pick-up location were the only small downsides that I experienced. Don't let the hills deter you from thinking about this one. | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my 5th marathon, my slowest time yet, and it was my most enjoyable run yet! Great set-up, awesome water-stop support, and the perk tent was... WOW! Spend the extra money - it is WELL worth it! Course was tough, but I knew that going in. I did not meet a rude or mean person the whole time there.... I'll visit Little Rock again, mostly because of the people!!! If you want to run a fun, well done race, this is IT! Thank you for making my 4th state the best so far!!! | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I have run bigger marathons, but none better. The course is a wonderful mix of hills and flat land. The fans were numerous and supportive, and the aid stations were well stocked and plentiful. Add two t-shirts and a medal that should be registered as a lethal weapon and you have an excellent marathon experience. | |

"Sign up of the Perks Tent" (about: 2006)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 If you run this race you should take advantage of the perks tent. For a couple of extra bucks they have a separate area with massage tables, food before and after the race, as well as soft drinks. The pizza that was there after the finish was very good and I had more people in the general finish area ask me where the pizza was kept. I had to tell them it was in the perks tent. I figure that there might be at least another 25 folks who sign up for it next year after seeing my pizza. Plus it had separate port-a-potties, so you didn't have to wait in the long lines. The course has hills. There are lots and lots of them on the 2nd half and the 1st half isn't exactly flat either. There are lots of twists and turns so you get to see quite a bit of the city of Little Rock. The folks that are at the water stops and the folks along the course are super friendly. The local motels were great and the 2 p.m. late checkout was super. It allowed us to take our time after the race and chill out without having to rush to the motel and shower and checkout. The medal is HUGE just like advertised and you got one shirt with the race packet and another one once you completed the race - that 2nd shirt was a suprise. Big, huge Mylar blankets were also handed out at the finish and I mean BIG, HUGE ones, almost twice the size of most race blankets. I had a great time and will run Little Rock again. | |

First Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This was my first marathon and I had a great time. It was every bit as difficult as I'd thought it would be...but the feeling when you finish...WOW! Great support from the 4:00 pace group leader, great crowd support, great organization. Everyone talks about the hills... but it's the long out-and-back by the river that is the hardest part of the course. Can't wait until next year!!! Run 4 Him | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 It would be hard for me to come up with a complaint about this marathon. The host hotel (Peabody) was gracious and most accommodating; the city was welcoming, even with a large crowd of SEC basketball fans in addition to the marathon bunch, and the race organizers didn't seem to miss a beat. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the wonderful volunteers. Yes, it was a bit hilly, but after 24 marathons, they really weren't terribly daunting. I enjoyed some of the parts of town we ran through. Some might have been a bit seedy, but I left with a favorable impression of Little Rock that has enticed me to come back. The extras/perks were also nice, including the shuttle. Easy to follow logistically even after running 26.2 miles. The expo had the right mixture of goodies, and the medal was just as big as I expected. I'd recommend the perks tent - well worth the small fee. This was a wonderful race for me. I've done the big ones, but Little Rock is one of my favorites. For once in my marathon career, I even saw the Sunday church bunch embrace runners in an excited manner, as opposed to honking their horns and getting upset like I've seen in other Sunday marathons. It seemed to me that communication throughout the city was crystal clear, and everyone seemed to know about and support the marathon. With the exception of Boston, I've never seen that in a marathon. I truly cannot think of one complaint. Great job! | |

"Inspired to run more marathons" (about: 2006)
First Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 My first marathon and it was awesome. Only two complaints. There was no mile 23 sign, which happened at a time when I did not need my mind playing games. Thank goodness for the man who pssed me while I was walking and asked if I had seen the mile 23 sign; after rounding the next corner, we saw the mile 24 sign. There is also a 35 mph speed sign in mile 24 that from a distance looks like the mile 25 sign. This sign needs to be covered up because it is a letdown when you get closer. Other than that, great race, great crowds and inspired to run more marathons. |
