"ALL-TIME FAVORITE!!!" (about: 2007)

I participated in the 2006 and 2007 events. This is my favorite race of all time! I am a girly girl and every aspect from the participants to the Tiffany necklace at finish is so feminine. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful. So beautiful that I hold back tears every time I come over the hill to see the oceans waves crashing against the cliffs. The course is a bit hilly, but I enjoy the challenge of improving my hill running every year (and pray that it makes my butt a bit smaller).

I participated in TNT during 2006 and not in 2007. In 2007 I felt a bit like an outsider because so many people cheered for TNT and not other runners. I think I will bring my own cheer team if I do not do TNT in 2008! :-]

Ps. I love running with my iPod ear bud in one ear (music and I can hear if someone wants to chat).

"This is a perfect first marathon!" (about: 2007)

This was my first marathon, and coming from Colorado, sea level made the hills a breeze.

Excellent support, food, and water along the way. The scenery was breathtaking.

I'm so glad I choose a women's event as my first marathon - it was a powerful experience.

I did not train or run with TNT, and thought the strong TNT presence was great. Those TNT folks raised huge amounts of money for cancer research - they deserve an extra cheer or two!

I would love to run the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco again!

It was a challenge, and my first marathon. I just did not expect so many hills, but I am doing it again this year!

This was my first visit to San Francisco and my 4th marathon. Enough of the negative comments...I had an awesome time, both visiting San Francisco itself and running the marathon. The scenery was spectacular, the weather - incredible. I appreciated all the spectators - plenty were cheering - who cares who they're cheering for - I just smiled, thanked them and ran on. As far as I was concerned, there were lots of stations for aid, water and whatever treats happened to be offered. The oranges were great, the bananas appreciated, Luna Bars a hit, the chocolate - yummm...and if you're worried about enough gel, bars or whatever...bring your own! Enough with the negativity. It is what you make it. Remember the volunteers that made it possible. I don't go to an event to criticize, I go to enjoy, and that I did. I feel an urge to return. Thank you San Francisco

"A great marathon!" (about: 2007)

This was my first marathon so I don't have much to compare it to. But, I thought it was wonderfully run. It was scenic, without much traffic, but with plenty of water. The spectators were awesome!! I was (way) toward the back of the pack and there were still plenty of people out there cheering us on.

I had such a good time that I was already dreaming of running it again next year as I limped over the finish line!

This was my 3rd 1/2 marathon, but my first big event. I trained with TNT, a great organization for a great cause. Overall it was a great event. A beautiful day on a challenging course, with great people along the course. My only complaint was that I wished the walkers had an different start time. Otherwise it was an incredible event from start to finish. I can't wait for next year.

"Views to DIE for!" (about: 2007)

This is a FABULOUS race! I've been yearning to do this race for years! There were a few hills, but the sights at the top were out of this world - well worth the effort! The gospel choir along the waterfront was a welcome surprise for those of us who didn't make it to church. The crowds were very supportive, as well as the other participants.

There were a few drawbacks. I frequent the Rock N Roll 1/2 in Virginia Beach and they always have a boatload of food at the start. I was expecting the same, but there was no food - no bagels or bananas. Signs for the split off of the 1/2 marathon from the full involved 2 people with a small sign on sticks - I almost missed it! There was supposed to be gel on the course in 2 spots but either it wasn't there or I missed the signs. I ran the entire race on Luna fruit snacks and bar samples along with water and Gatorade - needless to say, running up the Great Highway with the wind whipping off the ocean was brutal.

I would run this again, but I'd bring my own pre-race bagel and gel - just in case!

All in all, I can't complain - it was San Francisco after all, and that was the whole reason I came!

"Overall, INCREDIBLE" (about: 2007)

This was my first marathon. I trained with Team in Training, and so had roughly 1/3 of the other runners (although considering that the race itself benefits the Leukemia Society, that should not be a huge surprise). The weather was perfect, the course is incredibly beautiful, and the hills are few and not too bad. Particularly, the fact of so many people running for cancer is inspiring (the whole race is for cancer!).

True, many runners were wearing iPods, which made it difficult for me to connect with anybody. I made many more "friends" in smaller 1/2 marathons, etc., but I have never run with this large a group..., Not to mention the scenery had me captivated as it was. I may have felt like an outsider if I weren't wearing a purple TNT singlet, but still, I would definitely recommend this one!

"Bitter & angry for not getting to finish the 26.2!" (about: 2007)

First Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 2  FANS: 3

This was my first marathon. The course was beautiful and the water stations were good. The race was going great until we hit the 18.5-mile mark when my friend and I were told that our race was done and that we had to head toward the finish line. I was floored. I didn't know that we had to be there within 5 hours of the start of the race. We were 11 minutes late! Well we didn't get to cross the start line until after 7:25! We followed the rules and lined up with the proper pace group (12-15-min. mile) and basically got screwed. If we had only started with an earlier pace group, we would of been fine. So I trained for 6 months, raised over $8,000.00 for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and didn't even get to finish my first marathon! Needless to say I'm bitter and angry at not getting to finish - and I will never do another Nike sponsored marathon, nor will I buy Nike merchandise! When you go from 15,000 runners one year to 23,000 runners the next, you should have made some adjustments. Thank you so much for ruining my whole marathon experience!

"Beautiful course" (about: 2007)

This was my first time running the Nike Women's Marathon and I must say what a beautiful course! Very Scenic. Not too much crowd support once you got to the beach but isn't there always a point in every marathon where there will not be a lot of people around? Expo was okay. I was expecting a little more. Not used to running on hills seeing as I am from Houston but I set a new PR and qualified for Boston! Overall I was happy with the end result. I do recommend this marathon to others!
