"Nike does it right!" (about: 2006)

Had a great race on Sunday. Nike treats its runners well. I had a wonderful time as a part of Club Run SF - Nike's FREE training group. That was the best part of the whole marathon experience. I met, trained with, and raced with people from Club Run SF and it was such a great feeling. Great job Nike!!! Way to bring another awesome event to the Bay Area.

"Disappointed event........" (about: 2006)

Let's begin with the expo. Who needs all that pampering before you run? You need it after. What about gel and the latest and greatest products? Surely Nike has something new to offer. In addition, Niketown didnt have much of anything except for current marathon clothing to purchase. I would have loved to buy something that didn't have the Nike marathon plastered all over it. If you needed gel you couldn't find it in town. Either you went without it or had to drive 50 miles to find some. Really, explain the early start for only TNT? Although I am a TNT member, all should get that option that needs it. Or just start everyone at 5:30 and keep the race open until 1:30. That should be easy to fix NIKE!

Mile 16 was horrible for runners. They didn't know whether to go left or right depending on whether they were doing the half or the full. Several full ended up going to the finish line and had to turn around. Come on, can't that area be marked better. You had spectators telling the runner where to go and they still didn't get it right. The food on the course didn't exist. Around the lake area ran out of water and Gatorade. Help, this is a critical time. The last three or so miles along the water was brutal and boring. Keep spectators and people not running the marathon OFF the COURSE?

Finish line was very crowded. Not much food. Even TNT ran out of food. Massage tent closed early due to the large numbers of runners that needed help stretching after all those hills. Get real; you didn't know that people really wanted the pampering after the event! If you pass the pick up point around mile 18, then you are allowed to finish and should get your medal. You shouldn't have to argue after just completing 26.2 miles to justify your medal. That is insane everyone that finishes should get a necklace. Oh the necklace is the same for the half and the full. What is up with that? 26.2 miles are not different then 13.1? Everyone worked hard for what event they did. They should be recognized by that. Buses back to the hotels were really far away.

A lot of improvement needs to be made before I will come back. For Nike, this was a big disappointment. Men have a right to get a medal that fits who they are!

We had a blast! The best scenic race! I think the race was well organized. None of us felt slighted. It was great that we women got so much attention in a race - finally!! (Sorry, boys, if you felt left out, but really, there are other races....)

Spectators and course management was fantastic. I said 'wow' over the course at least a dozen times, EXCEPT around Lake Merced-I hate to worry about traffic. Walkers were going three abreast and I had to jump up and down the sidewalk. Loved the finisher shirt and necklace. Would have liked a distinction between the half and full marathoners in the gifts. Also, coming from TNT, we worked hard to raise our money and the expo wanted to suck all we had left dry. Where were the little samples of stuff at: sunscreen, chapstick, Bio Freeze? Besides that, I would love to do it again!

PLEASE keep this as a women only event.. I flew in from Boston to run with females only, and it was a GREAT experience! My favorite slogan was 'Run like a girl!' I think that was awesome! The Tiffanys necklaces at the end were REALLY something to look forward to. I'm not sure why a man would want to enter this event, but please don't change anything! The hills were great, and not too challenging, the spectators were awesome, and overall I had a wonderful experience! San Francisco is beautiful! See you next year!

"An OK marathon but not for a first timer" (about: 2006)

This was my first marathon (which I ran with TNT). My TNT experience was fantastic but I found the marathon a bit of a disappointment. The scenery was beautiful but some of the organization aspects made it less than what I expected. The line-up for the start was disorganized and everyone was left to put themselves in the pace areas. This resulted in slow people at the front creating log-jams. There is a reason why we are asked our expected finish time on our applications -- maybe the organizers should use this info!!! The expo was horrible and not at all like I had been expecting based on what other more experienced runners told me about expos. I think the marathon organizers still need to work out a few bugs. Loved the necklace and finishers shirt but thought it would have been better to give the guys a shirt that said 'Ran with the girls'. After all, they deserve some respect too.

"AMAZING" (about: 2006)

This was my first race, and I have to say I could not ask for anything better in a marathon. There was so much support it was incredible. To the woman saying it should cater more to men, I could not disagree more. This is the Nike Women's Marathon afterall. It was empowering to women, and that is the way it should be. What a wonderful outlet for women to gain confidence and esteem. In a male dominated world, us women need things like this to come together and feel gooD. I felt that the men involved were proud to be a part of such a great event!

I trained with TNT, and had a great experience. Our coaches did a good job of preparing us, particularly for the hills. The volunteers and support staff were fabulous. Critiques: The expo was lousy, we had to walk about another mile to get to the return buses, and NIKE: get with the program, and offer products in sizes that REAL women can wear!

"2006 POOR Organization" (about: 2006)

4-5 previous marathons | 3 Nike 26.2 = Nike Women's Marathons
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 2  FANS: 3

This was my third Nike 26.2. Totally slacked in organization at the start. The best music was on 4 at the base of the hill. But male cheerleaders doing high lifts, falling into path of runners instead of CHEERING runners on? Along the course, please remind walkers to keep to the right, especially before hills. Spectators were allowed to feed themselves at vendors and were taking up tables.

"Overall excellent, except for the walkers" (about: 2006)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Nike 26.2 = Nike Women's Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 3  FANS: 3

Nike's organization of walkers caused hazardous running conditions for runners. The constant dodging around 7-10 rows of walkers caused many near falls and frequent stumbles for myself and other runners. I didn't see signs for slower traffic to be kept right until later in the race. The walkers should mandatorily be lined up at the end of the runners or have a different course, so they are behind the runners at all times.

The expo was also disappointing for the first-time marathoners that joined me. The hype for the event was just not there prior to the race for a race of this magnitude.
