"GREAT LITTLE MARATHON" (about: 2007)

I loved this marathon. I'll never forget as the national anthem was being sung the sound system had a malfunction and the runners picked up the 'ball' and started singing.

Only thing I can say to the organizers is don't let this one get too big. Keep it small and personal even if you have to close registration.

"A very good first-marathon experience!" (about: 2007)

I chose the Indy Marathon as my first because it is only 40 miles from my home, and ten miles from my son and grandson's. We had chamber of commerce weather - 55 to start, and about 70 when I finished. The park was outstanding, and the fall colors were beautiful. The second half is a bit hilly for a first-timer, but all in all, it was an excellent experience. If I were doing a fall half, I would pick this over the "other" Indy mini. I will probably run this marathon again sometime, after I try a few others. Thanks to all of the organizers and volunteers who stood for hours while we had fun! I had no issues with drinks, traffic control, or directions. The meal after the race was very tasty. My only negative comment is that I didn't get a picture at the finish line. Maybe the photographer took a break just after the 5-hour mark.

This was my first marathon and I was doubtful of my abilities to complete it, but the race organization was great, and the volunteers outdid their job and I guess were partially responsible in me finishing the course quite comfortably. I will surely come next year.

"Beautiful Course" (about: 2007)

This was my 9th marathon and I decided to run it after a disappointing finish in Chicago 13 days earlier. The weather was perfect and the course is beautiful (especially through the park). The post-race meal is great and it was a fun race even though later in the race I began to feel the leftover effects of running Chicago just 13 days earlier. For people looking for a smaller to mid-size marathon, this is a great one.

What a pleasant surprise!!! I have run 30-plus races including a lot of the majors like Boston, and it's always a pleasure to find a smaller race that is a true runner's marathon. The race had great weather, fall colors and helpful, smiling volunteers. Another personal touch and a first is that the race director sent out a congratulatory email to all of us who qualified for Boston. Hopefully this race doesn't grow too big and keeps to its roots.

I will be back.

"Wonderful course and support" (about: 2007)

I enjoyed the scenic, wooded surroundings, and leaves coming down in front of me as I ran. The last time I ran this relaxed was in Maine (as it also offered a beautiful fall foliage run).

The support was good for the race size.

I will keep this marathon in mind for a future run.

"Small-town marathon with a lot of heart" (about: 2007)

I ran this marathon 3 years ago for my first marathon. Most runners couldn't believe I would choose such a small marathon as my first, but in the end I was hooked. I decided the following year to try one of the big boys - Chicago. Well it was big, but it seemed to lack something.
I came back this year to find that the marathon had doubled in participation (first time it sold out) and it also doubled in spectators! I was very happy with this and will probably make this my annual fall marathon!

This was a great small marathon to run. The volunteers were all smiles and a good mental boost when the crowds went away. They actually made the run what it was. I enjoyed hearing small children chanting 'go runners go' in the neighborhoods. The other runners were also friendly and helped cheer each other on. The course was interesting for what it was (a flat course through a small town). The HUGE American flag was very inspiring and gave me some more motivation to make this a good run. The hills in park were a welcome surprise and challenge. The food was a nice touch. That is one thing about small marathons, the food is worth running for.
All in all, I recommend this race to anyone looking for friendly volunteers and fast course. And the weather was nice enough to cooperate too. cheers!!

Wonderful experience and volunteers and staff are to be congratulated. Thank you.

I have one thought. This was my first marathon as was my friend's. She was one of the last to cross the finish line and was so proud and excited to have completed this life's challenge. About 4-6 followed her within 15 minutes.

Question: can the staff a volunteers wait to disassemble the finish line until everyone has completed their run?
I appreciate that it had been a very long day, but I think some of the most inspirational runners are those who are at the tail end....they stuck it out! They deserve to see the finish line banner.

I really enjoyed this race. It was a beautiful run. It was broke up enough to make it really enjoyable. There were a lot of water stops. People very friendly. The volunteers were outstanding; it really was appreciated. It was wonderful the meal they had afterwards. The organization was wonderfully put together. This was my 5th race and I plan to go back again.
