"Well Organized" (about: 2011)

I run in quite a few races each year and this was the best organized, most fun, greatest weather race I could have ever hoped for. Thanks to everyone for their time and dedication in getting this inaugural race 'up and running' (no pun intended).

"1st time half-marathoner; won't be the last" (about: 2011)

This was my first ever half-marathon I ran in, and only the second race I've witnessed. I was extremely happy and satisfied that I chose this one to be the first. I felt informed and encouraged months and weeks before the race and then it just spilled over into the race day. I was AMAZED at how smooth it was! Will definitely sign up for next years race...maybe even the marathon!

"Race was done very well." (about: 2011)

I thought the race was put together very well. Had that community feel through the entire event.

Below it would seem the only choice is marathon, but I actually ran the 1/2 marathon.

"Great Race with great organization and crowds" (about: 2011)

This race was my favorite to date in terms of pre-race information; unexpected surprises for runners, such as bonus race hats; organization; race crowds; and volunteers. This race was a runner's dream, from the close parking, the fairly flat course, the cooperation of two cities and a major university, to the enthusiasm of the crowds. As a runner, I felt like I was part of a large family, not just some bib number. My running buddies and I now plan to run this race annually and recommend it to all of our friends.

First Marathon

This was my first half marathon and I had a great experience. It was well organized, had a good course, and good food and drink at the end! Can't wait until next year!

This was an excellent race! Things that could be improved are more signage directing runners where to go. Also, running through the park near the end was not very enjoyable because it took you away from the crowd.

"Great course and great event!" (about: 2011)

From the beginning, you could tell the organizers of this marathon were going to make it a great event. Chris, the organizer, used twitter and facebook with great success to build interest for the event and keeping the runners informed. They put together a great list of sponsors and developed great partnerships with plenty of local businesses including the media, health and safety, and other organizations. The relationships really created an environment for success. The course was littered with timely water stations, port-o-johns, medical stations and snacks (though I would have preferred gels or fruit to gummy bears), which helped get me and others across the finish line. The police officers and cadets did a great job keeping traffic at bay as we crossed some of the busiest intersections in the area. The volunteers at each station cheered the runners on and were enthusiastic to be there, which was great because one negative about the race is there was not a lot of 'community support.' The course was as flat and as fast (set a new PR!!!) as it was billed up to be. Though they don't control the weather, we were blessed with a wonderful cool day with a good breeze to maintain the pleasant running conditions. The medals are by far the best one I have received from a half or whole marathon including Chicago Marathon and Rock-n-Roll events. A quick pro/cons list may help as well.

Cons: goodie bag, community support, post race food
Pros: everything pre-race, course route, runner support (e.g., water stops), medal, t-shirt, post-race atmosphere

Ultimately, the organizing group did a great job with this event! I hope to be able to run the event again because this was a great day!

"The most professionally run races I have ran." (about: 2011)

2 previous marathons | 1 Bryan/College Station Marathon

I have run in many Rock n Roll races and more Disney races than I care to confess. This BCS Marathon was the most professional run races I have ever been part of. The director was always available to answer questions on Facebook or via email. Even though I am slow the people working the water stops treated me as if I was in first place. I will run this race again and I will tell all my running friends this is the one to run! This was my second full marathon. I have run more half marathons than I can count right now... about 25, I think.

"A FANTASTIC small race with great support!" (about: 2011)

This is the best race I've ever run in!
I loved that I didn't have to dodge crowds, but yet was surrounded by runners the entire time. I really appreciated water/Gatorade every 1.5 miles, potties every 3. The route covers much of both cities plus the A&M campus, and I loved the variety of scenery and the fact that it wasn't boring country roads.

"PERFECT Race!" (about: 2011)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Bryan/College Station Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

I have run many races over the last three years, but none have been as well-organized as this one. Prior to the race, the director provided loads of support to the registrants. It was also evident on race day that the director involved the entire community, from the local hospital to the high school art students to the college students. Even the drivers stuck in traffice were friendly! I've never seen such fabulous on-course support. Every water/gatorade station was set up exactly the same so that runners knew what to expect. All of the volunteers at every stop called out the runners by name. Even the medical staff (who were at every stop past mile 13) cheered us on by name. This race was absolutely flawless. Kudos to the director, the volunteers, and the community.
