"BEST RACE IN TEXAS with amazing crowd support." (about: 2014)

This is an amazing race. As my first marathon, it was the best experience I could have asked for. The organization is impeccable. Being greeted at the finish line by the race organizer was so nice! The finisher's medals, shirts, and extra goodies we got were the best I've seen at any race. The crowd support and aid stations are second to none. The last 10 miles were a huge struggle for me, but having people cheering so often throughout made it a little easier to push through. So thankful I got to be a part of such a great race =)

This marathon is the best in Texas...hands down. Great course, fan support, organization, cause and post race spread. I'll run this race every year that I'm able to.

"Preparation, safety, personal touch & care" (about: 2014)

From start to finish I have felt confident in the preparation and planning for this race. That is important to me now at age 63 with moderate running experience and newly widowed. I must be able to depend on the organization of a race for proper support, including food and drink, potties from start to finish, clearly marked course with traffic control and of course competent medical staff. I believe if you put on a race of any distance you put it on for the last person that will cross the finish line. Everyone has a story, a journey, a reason and that reason must be respected by the organizers top down and frankly passed on to volunteers. There were clear emails and Face Book posts to both inform and encourage prior to the race and these organizers clearly delivered.
There were some very good cheer stations which I found inspiring. There were photographers spread over the entire marathon course. Timing pads for splits and race tracking for spectators. There was instructional support for spectators and a clearly marked map so my family could get the information they needed to plan a surprise visit timed just right to make my day special.
Coming in after the 6 hour mark means you are in the grittiest part of the race. You know you have the grit to finish and you just want the same grit and commitment from race support. It seems to me, clearly, Chris Fields and crew understands and appreciates this. While there was very little food left when I finished, and no beer, I was comfortable with having plenty of water, sport drink, ice water towels, one breakfast taco and even a margarita. That is more than I have had at the end of 9 halves, and 3 relays. During the race however there was food at the promised locations. This was real food oranges, bananas as well as Goo and chewy candies. Along with those areas was attention to clean-up. Many times the cups, spilled water and squashed Goo create a hazard. There were ample trash cans and volunteers attending to real time clean up.
The medical stops were also most competent as they were staffed with volunteers from Baylor Scott and White Hospital. They were engaged with you as you approached and stocked with, Tylenol, salt, Vaseline, and other supplies. They were clearly visible and in red. Thankfully I did not need their assistance but I saw several people helped with enthusiasm and competence.
I loved the personal touch that Chris gave by being there to hug and congratulate me, share in my medal placement and family celebration. Chris asked me about the course and how the support stations were holding out to get instant finish line feedback, late in the race. I was able to report a couple of stations seemed to not be manned. He thanked me for that report and apologized. That is how improvement is made. I was impressed that my feedback was sought on the spot with genuine interest in my personal experience. I would be honored and enthusiastic to do this race again.

"The BCS Marathon and Mercy Project" (about: 2014)

The BC Marathon and Half - Marathon is overall the best race in the U.S. The wonderful people, great town with all the amenities, smooth flat course is bar none at the very top. But the main draw is the spirit of the race. It's more than just yourself. It's running for others. It's understanding how blessed you are. It's the final stretch that you see and feel the compassion. It's the medal placed around your neck by the children. Mercy runs through your veins!

Incredible race. All volunteers were as helpful and supportive as possible. Very organized race. Such a blessing to experience. Wouldn't have wanted my first half marathon to be any other one.

"Great swag, great after-party, great organization" (about: 2014)

This race is very organized. Plus they offer lots of bathrooms, easy parking close to the starting line, and a lot of water stops. There are so many cheering people all along the half course. The swag and the after-party are amazing! Two shirts plus a medal and this year's extra was a pair of custom Swiftwicks! Last, but certainly not least, the after-party with tons of food and beverages. All of which supports several local charities and Mercy Project! Just a great race experience!

This is a fantastic event, and I highly recommend it for first timers, or veterans. The course is fun, the crowds are excited, and the weather is great every year, period.

Looking forward to next year already!
