First Marathon

If you love hills~this is the race for you! I ran the 1/2. It was a beautiful morning and great location for parking, packet pickup and after party. Loved the challenge of the course and convenience of travel from Florida. Will be back for another weekend of fun!

My parents are from Meridian and most my family lives up there! Was so excited to be running by Aldersgate Retirement Community, got to run by and get a hug from my 91 year young cousin! Her friends all made signs for me! The volunteers through out the race were amazing and so friendly! They see a runner and start cheering for them! The amount of water and powerade we recovered throughout was incredible!! The course is a great challenge! I did the half as did my dad. Not a PR for us but it was freezing that morning and we aren't used to running on hills! Would consider running it again. The finish line we got Popeyes and Little Casaers! Best prize ever!! Picking up the goodie bags and bibs was so simple! The shirts are awesome, the actual bag is a backpack!! And the medals are awesome!! I reccomend it to all my running friends!!

"Well-organized challenging but fun marathon" (about: 2014)

Really enjoyed this marathon. Everything was very well-organized - bib pick-up, well-stocked aid stations throughout, post-race pizza and chicken. Even though it is a small town marathon, there are pockets of encouraging support throughout. The tech shirt you get is great as is the chunky finishers medal. It is a challenging course (marathons are supposed to be tough) with a few slow steady inclines. That said I managed to knock 8 minutes off my PB. Would like to run it again next year. Definitely would recommend it.

"Friendliest race crew ever!" (about: 2013)

I ran the 2013 race; the marathon has a friendly, small-town feel to it, and that's part of the magic. The race crew and spectators are as friendly a bunch as you will ever find. The 2013 course was pretty tough - those hills are no joke - but flat courses are boring :) Definitely a 'hidden gem' among marathons; if you ever have the opportunity to run this one, do it - you'll be glad you did.

"Great run & volunteers. Enjoyed hilly challenge." (about: 2013)

I ran the half today, 11/16/13. Race was well organized. I enjoyed the challenge of the hilly route. Unique place awards, large finishers medal, tech shirt, goodie bag, live bands, etc. Water stops spaced at most every mile with many volunteers. Packet pick up was easy. Meridian seemed to welcome the runners. Overall great race.

I have enjoyed this coarse. It has hills, so it has challenge. It is a smaller race, so it is not intimidating and the race director and volunteers are very friendly and supportive.

"Challenging course, southern charm" (about: 2012)

4-5 previous marathons | 1 Magnolia Marathon & Half

The 2012 race was the first marathon ever in Meridian, MS. The race was well-managed and used chip timing.
The race course is certified and very challenging with long steady hills. The course starts/ends at Northeast Park and goes south on Hwy 39 to downtown Meridian. The 22nd avenue hill is nothing to take lightly! A large portion of the race follows Poplar Springs Drive, a historic and scenic drive. Overall a very pretty course.
For the first timer, this will be a challenging course. If you like a challenge, this is the race for you! I have run both full and half courses. In my opinion, The marathon course is hillier than the Blues Marathon course (Jackson, MS-January).

A very scenic and friendly atmosphere race. People of Meridian were very nice and had great volunteers. A good race to run if you are ever in Mississippi.
