1. This is not a comment on the race itself, but on the accommodations recommendations. I think the hotels recommended on the race website should be actually willing to accommodate marathon participants. The hotel where I stayed wanted to charge a higher price than was listed on your website, then wanted to charge me extra if I checked out after 2p. If you run a marathon at an average pace you won't finish until about 12:30p, and with rallying, driving back, and ice bathing post race, it's very hard to be out by 2p. I think there should be some understandings next time when these arrangements are made with local hotels that runners should not be penalized for late check outs.

2. None of the medical tents carried ibuprofen. I think it's important that they do. Does it require a health care professional to dispense OTC painkillers? Can this be made available?

3. The route was just lovely!

4. The bag check process was awesome, and very runner-friendly!

This past Saturday, I ran Richmond - my first marathon. While I have nothing to compare it to, I can't imagine a better experience. The course was scenic and mostly flat. I liked that it was a good combination of city and 'park'. The spectators were unbelievably supportive. Organization of the race was superb. I can't wait to run Richmond again next year.

Needed more water stations earlier and more nutrition centers. Maybe because this is my first marathon I thought there would be more, but I was surprised that water and fuel was later in the race. I ended up dehydrated, even though I drank at least 2 cups at every stop. I think it had to do with less water stations on the front end.

Had the best time of my life running the Sun Trust marathon. All my 18 weeks of training crammed into 4.5 hrs of ecstasy was totally worth it. The spectators and volunteers were awesome. Close and litter their streets and they were still out full force if not cheering then offering you some goodies. Had the time of my life and will be back next year to hopefully qualify for Boston. Thanks so much to everyone that had a hand in organizing this awesome sporting event!!

WOW! This was my first marathon. I don't know how to put into words the experience I had but I will try.

The course was amazing. I didn't want to run in circles over and over again. All 26.2 miles were different.

The organizers had detailed newsletters and an active Facebook that answered any questions that even a new runner such as myself would have.

The best part of the entire race was the spectators. I don't recall going more than 1/2 mile without seeing somebody cheering us on. They had bands playing in many places along the way. Spectators gave out orange and apple wedges, shots of coke and even beer shots, Gummy bears, cookies and donut holes! They had two wash cloth stations along the way that was so refreshing too. After the race there was pizza, bananas, bagels galore!

Overall, my training was not up to the level where it needed to be and I was disappointed in my finish time but the experience was so amazing that it more than made up for it!

We were following your instructions to stay north of Broad and almost missed the marathon. Lombardy street was closed off at Leigh too soon. Also, the directions to get from party stop to party stop for the marathon for spectators were really bad. You really need to look at this.
Overall, everything else was pretty good. Great job.

Richmond is a great city, and this race really showcases all different sides of it. The course is excellent, and the timing makes for great weather. Everything is well organized, and the spectators are incredible. I don't think a mile went by without seeing a fan! I shaved 12 minutes off my best time here!

My first marathon. Wow! This was an amazingly fun race. The organizers and event volunteers were great, they were all friendly, positive, and helpful. All of the spectators, and especially those past mile 21, really helped me to the finish.

This was my first marathon and I honestly just wanted to finish, though was hopeful for a 3:30. I set out a little faster than expected but found no problem at all keeping a sub 8-minute mile pace, even bringing it down to low 7's for many miles. I finished in 3:13:21 feeling great. The crowd support was amazing and I cannot wait until next year/my next marathon!
