"2024 Myrtle Beach was a memorable one!" (about: 2024)
11-50 previous marathons
| 1 Myrtle Beach Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 A very well supported race from the police presence to the aid station volunteers. The weather cooperated for us in 2024 with light rain that dissipated quickly. Foggy as we ran along the beach on the boardwalk. The Marathon and half started together but from the front of the pack perspective it wasn't a big deal after the first 400m or so. Enjoyed the cheer zones and the quiet stretches as we explored the Myrtle Beach area. Just a little beware.. there is a serious crown to the road around miles 10-12 or so. Nice big finisher medal. The post-race food could have been improved but understandable given the size of the event it can't be a free for all. The post race beer included (2) should have been something local rather than BudWiser that was my biggest beef with the event.

"Well Organized Race" (about: 2023)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 2 The start line was great. The finish line was so-so. Cold pizza for slower runners and a walk to and from the stadium that took forever. Disappointing end to an otherwise nice day.

"Decent Mid-Sized Marathon with Good Organization" (about: 2021)
50+ previous marathons
| 1 Myrtle Beach Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I ran the Myrtle Beach Marathon at a time where races that did happen had modifications. Race organizers made a reasonable effort to create a safe event that year. The course was decent with good scenery. Although the race was postponed two months the year I ran it due to COVID, it's usually in March. That allows for noticeably cooler temperatures, which is a must for the warm and humid Southeast.

"The Cutoff Time Is Too Soon" (about: 2021)
1 previous marathon
| 1 Myrtle Beach Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 If you miss the cutoff time, the cones will be taken up and you do not know where to run to finish the course. Other than that, it is a great course with great scenery and flat. Athletes coming together with a great atmosphere.

"Flat and Fast!" (about: 2020)
2 previous marathons
| 1 Myrtle Beach Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This course is pretty much completely flat, which makes it a good race to PR in. Along the Grand Strand you get fairly strong winds from the ocean but it was manageable. Great post race stuff. Nice medal, tech shirt, and finisher tank

"Great PR course but a bit warm" (about: 2019)
11-50 previous marathons
| 1 Myrtle Beach Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 The course was exactly what I was looking for. Flat, fast, well marked, enough competitors that you never feel too alone. Well supported with aid stations and volunteers. However at 60 deg, it was a bit warm for me. I hear this was unseasonably warm, but has occurred a few times for this race. Cloud cover and slight breeze helped, but I also hear some years the wind is pretty strong. There was an overlapping section where the 5k shared the course with the marathon and half marathon which was unacceptable. I had to weave between hundreds of 5k walkers who were not staying to the right and taking up the entire width of the course. Hopefully they fix this next year. The finish festival had great amenities and atmosphere, but the setup was really confusing. I've done 40 or so races and never had such a hard time finding food and drink. It was all there, but navigating the different areas to find everything was a pain. Long sleeve shirts are a cool color and design, but the fit is aweful. Baggy and loose doesn't seem like a shirt for runners. Overall really enjoyed the race though!

"Flat fast PR course" (about: 2017)
11-50 previous marathons
| 1 Myrtle Beach Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 Ideal conditions (36-46, 10 mph wind) plus a flat, fast course made for a good day for performances. Course was a complete tour of Myrtle Beach and roads were in good shape with no traffic issues. Expo was well organized. Picked up a Roo Sports magnetic front storage pouch that worked great in the race for Gu's and salt tabs. Only organizational complaint was the funneling of all runners to a sidewalk at the beginning of the race. The line was long and I suspect some runners were late getting to the start. They were therefore not lined up in the proper place resulting in dodging or blocking other runners. This would have been fine if runners had been given advance notice to allow and extra 10-15 minutes for this funneling at the beginning. Spectators were nice, people were friendly but sparse due to the season and cool temps I suspect. Myrtle Beach is a very relaxed town this time of year and I enjoyed the weekend. Lots of quality restaurants and very convenient to find whatever you want within 10 minutes. Only other negative comment was avoid the La Quinta on 21st street. They were not very friendly to the marathoners allowing no late checkouts whatsover past their 11 am checkout deadline.

"Lovely Fast Course, A+ Organization" (about: 2017)
11-50 previous marathons
| 1 Myrtle Beach Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 The course is flat with few turns, scenic, outstanding volunteers. Expo had easy packet pick up, anything else a runner might need. Medal a bit too big for my taste but I get it. Shirt is okay. Weather was perfect!!! Hotels inexpensive & shuttles for race to & from hotels were great. Not sure why this race has had declining numbers, it certainly shouldn't as it's really well done. I'd recommend it to anyone, particularly anyone wanting a fast time in a fun environment! Made a great 33rd marathon for me.

"Fast and flat course" (about: 2017)
3 previous marathons
| 1 Myrtle Beach Marathon
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I really enjoyed running this marathon course. This course runs down Ocean Blvd between all of the hotels and shops in the heart of Myrtle Beach with a few areas where you get a good view of the ocean. I thought you got a lot for the price of entry. Shuttle service from hotel pre and post race was all included. Expo was easily accessible and well organized. Nice metal and tech shirt.

"96th marathon! A great deal! A must for all !" (about: 2017)
50+ previous marathons
| 1 Myrtle Beach Marathon
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I was always told that Myrtle Beach knew how to throw a race and I was right. A great value for runners. Free parking near the start. Great shirt, socks, and sunglasses in the race kit. Pizza, beer, donuts and massages at the finish and pretty flat course! The free concert at night with free food was a great bonus as well. Add a $25 a night hotel room merely metres from the Ocean and you have a great deal! I recommend all runners do this race because it has everything. As a Canadian I was happy to see so many Canadians around as well. |
