"1st Marathon - Great Experience" (about: 2010)

First Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

This was my first marathon so I was a bit nervous and anxious. It was exactly what I had hoped for, except old Mother Nature wanted us to stay home! The crowd was always cheering you on - as a matter of fact, at one water point near mile 25, I started feeling it a bit, and as I reached for a water, a volunteer looked at me and said, "There are no walls, my friend." That gave me the energy to push out a great last mile and a half. I will do this race as long as I can run/walk, and I recommend it to all. Everyone loves my medal too. I have one question, and if anyone can help, I would appreciate it. Who was the guy shaking our hands at the Finish Swine? I'm not from the area, so I didn't know who it was. Thanks, and see you all again next year.

"Fantastic Support" (about: 2010)

This was my third "Pig," and even the rainy weather did not stop folks from lining the streets to cheer us on. All aid stations were well stocked with smiling volunteers. The expo was great, as usual, with something for everyone. There was plenty of variety and an ample supply of food and drink at the finish line. This marathon gets better every year. Thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers - you truly make this an awesome event. What a great reflection on the City of Cincinnati.

Even in pouring rain, and even near the end of the race, the volunteers were great and very encouraging. A very good expo. A great experience. The Runner's World Challenge was also a great experience.

"Fun Race with Excellent Crowd Support" (about: 2010)

This was my first time running a marathon in the rain, but the crowd support was impressive given the weather. The rain probably caused some issues with the water/Gatorade stations. The Gatorade had an iodine taste to it. Cups used for water (different from those for Gatorade) were soaked by rain and fell apart a couple of times, spilling all of their contents when I tried to drink from them.

I was very concerned that this race would not even get started because of the thunder, lightning and rain taking place right up until we took off. But it did, and although it rained the entire way, it was one of my favorite marathons so far - if not my favorite. The t-shirt was very cute, the medals are fabulous, the expo was great, and the organization was wonderful. All of the spectators who came out in the rain and hung in there (I'm a slow runner) really were stellar, including the nuns, bands, chorus, etc. Even without all of that the course is delightful; it's well-worth running the race just for that. The view across the river at the top of the hill in Eden Park was jaw-dropping. Of course, you have to get up the hill first, which, like all my other adjectives, is pretty over the top. This race is a model for how the others should go! Thanks, Cincinnati.

"Great Challenging Course" (about: 2010)

Ran the half marathon and really enjoyed the course and encouragement from the brave spectators who were out in the rainy weather. The steepest hill was the bridge back into Ohio. The rest of the course had some shorter climbs and rolling hills. Fantastic view of the Ohio River was a boost. The only negative was the one start for "everybody." Starting groups in corrals with separate starts would have helped minimize the early race congestion. Overall, a great race, which I hope to run again in the future.

"REMARKABLE" (about: 2010)

I want to congratulate Cincinnati on a wonderful race. How anyone could have had a bad experience at this marathon is beyond me. The pride that the community showed during my entire visit was amazing. The fans that support this race are awesome despite an awful forecast and rain quite often through out the day. I decided that with the rain I would forget about a PR and just enjoy this race and all the spectators. The expo was the best that I have been to. The race price is reasonable. The medal is the best one that I have received. The duffel bag is fantastic and the poster was a nice memento. The organization of this race is second to none. The instructions for out-of-town visitors were perfect. Race directors from other marathons need to visit this town on race day. The course Is hilly, but what goes up comes down and the course is manageable. My only gripe is that they ran out of my size tech shirt for the marathon. Hats off to the people of Cincinnati and the Pig organizers. What a FUN race.

"Great race; consistency in fluids would be good" (about: 2010)

A great, well organized race with fantastic community support, especially considering the steady rain. One small complaint: be consistent in the placement of water/Gatorade. I moved to the right to get fluids only to find it on the left for that fluid station. By the way, thanks so much to the relay runner whose encouraging words pulled me to a strong finish in the final 0.2 miles when I was fading fast.

"Overall, a great race!" (about: 2010)

This was my third Flying Pig and it was an excellent race; however, I was disappointed that the race directors chose not to try and provide some guidance in the days leading up to the race in regards to the weather. It was obvious to see that the weather was going to impact the race (t-storms associated with a cold front, which could be severe) and yet there was no word on the website that gave any indication what contingency plans were in place (would they delay the start, what would they cancel for, etc). It would have been helpful to the runners to have an idea of what to expect, especially those traveling from out of town like myself. With that exception, it continues to a well organized event and one that I recommend running.

"THE PIG IS A MUST-DO MARATHON!" (about: 2010)

I enjoyed everything about this race except for the weather (rained all day) and the pre-race pasta party. The expo was fantastic and well organized. Loved the free duffel tote with the embroidered pig logo. Everyone was friendly and smiling. Even though it rained all day, folks came out in raincoats to cheer on the runners! It made those rolling hills easier to bear. Great spirit, Cincy! I must to this again. The only thing I would not do is the pasta party, which was pitiful. (There was only one type of pasta and two sauces, which were all cold.) Save the money for the Italian restaurant around the corner.
