The 2006 version was well done, and the 2007 version was even better. Improvements noted across the board. Couldn't have asked for a better run event. Other marathons should take note. A definite addition to the "everyone must try" list.

This was my 89th marathon/ultra-marathon and it was top-notch! Well organized from registration to packet pickup and throughout the race. Scenic course with a cool breeze coming off the bay; about half of the course being shaded by rows of trees between the shoreline and the road. There are so many races I want to run in the U.S. and overseas, but I could see myself returning to Traverse City somewhere down the road to run this race again. I also agree with the comments about this area being a great vacation spot to bring friends or family.

This event was in the neatest little town! What a great little business strip with fun shops. The people were so nice.

Very easy course - can't even call it rolling. It had no hills on it.

This is a must-do run! Too pretty to miss... and we had great weather this year. We ran the entire race along the lake. There were vineyards, orchards, pretty flowers, beautiful homes, and neat little beaches. A truly first-class event.

You start at a school so that you can use their bathrooms, for you anti-porta-potty people. There was race-day packet pickup for those who don't get anywhere early. But you should use the long weekend and stay in this great town. You will be glad that you did.

Plenty of rest stops, and nice people everywhere... no traffic. It just doesn't get much better than this!

This was my third marathon. I picked it because of the comments here on MarathonGuide.... It sounded wonderful and I was looking for a fast run with great weather in an effort to qualify for Boston. THIS IS A FABULOUS EVENT! This is a beautiful course along the water. It is a small event, but so well done that if I EVER repeat a race, it would be this one. The course is flat, and flat-out gorgeous. I did not believe it would be as shaded or flat as advertised, but it was. Mile markers, hydration stations, and Gu were right on target. Very well manned and very easy to navigate while running.

The field was small enough (1,700 in the marathon) that I was never alone, nor was it crowded. I had never run a race with so small a field, and I thought this one was perfect number-wise. This has quite possibly changed my view on smaller races. Quality over quantity. The fans along the course were so enthusiastic. The finish on the local track is excellent. It is almost like a victory lap and the soft track feels so good on your knees at the very end. And the post-race food was fantastic: bagels, cookies, ice cream, yogurt, etc. - very nice and plentiful. The race organizers even swept up the shirts and jackets runners had discarded along the course and brought them to the end so people could find their things. The weather in northern Michigan was as if they had ordered it specially for the marathon, and I was so glad... 50's to start and mid to upper 60s (it seemed) by the end. Despite minimal training due to a pulled muscle, I turned in a PR and beat my Boston requirement by 15 minutes. The Bayshore Marathon medal is also the nicest I've ever seen....

I highly, highly recommend this race. Traverse City itself is a very inviting, enjoyable city to visit.

Traverse City Bayshore is a well-run, class event. If you run in Michigan, do this marathon. THANK YOU, BAYSHORE MARATHON, AND MAY YOU RUN MANY MORE....

"Great Course, Organization, and Shirt" (about: 2007)

This is a great race; weather was perfect and the volunteers kick ass. Not a lot of spectator locations available, but the organizers did bus people to the spots, which I thought was cool. Aid stations were placed well; I think they used to do every 2 miles, but this year they said it was about every 1.5. My GPS watch picked up an extra .15 miles between miles 11 and the half - it's usually pretty accurate so I'd love to see if anyone had this happen, because I could have used that extra minute! The technical shirt they gave is one of the nicest I've seen - great to get one that isn't white for once! The out-and-back course has a slight incline on the way out, so hill training might be a good idea. Outside of the race, this is a great town to visit for a long weekend; we camped and went to wineries on Saturday and Sunday. I think I may have to start making this an annual trip.

This was my first marathon and it was a good first choice, I think. Not a lot of crowds. Post-race food was ok. Would have liked to have had granola or trail mix or something more healthy in the "bread/grain" department than cookies.

"Bottom line - The best marathon in Michigan" (about: 2007)

I've run Detroit and Cleveland prior to running Bayshore and without question - this was the best. Going into it, I didn't expect a lot of crowd support since it was such a scenic route. I was so wrong. The crowds were amazing and really kept you moving. The scenery is fantastic, and the aid stations were all very well organized.

No matter if this is your first marathon or you are a seasoned veteran, DO THIS RACE!

After running 2 marathons in hilly Tennessee last month, this was fantastic! Great weather, and a flat, fast, scenic course with great organization. Water stations were well spaced and there was plenty of shade and support. The finisher's medal was awesome! This was my first Bayshore but not my last. See you next year!

Traverse City is a beautiful place to visit and run a marathon. A flat, scenic course with more crowd support than I expected. Great medals! Definitely one for those trying to qualify for Boston.

First Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 4

Very good organization overall. Enough porta-potties at the start/finish line. Well placed aid stations along the course. Very pretty course! Only problem I had with the course was the severe slope of the road at times, which put a strain on my legs. Spectators were only found at a few locations but were very encouraging and enthusiastic. Great food at the end. Nice finisher's medal.
