"A beautiful marathon course" (about: 2004)

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I was just amazed at the beauty of this course. It really took your mind off of the aches and pains your body was feeling. Relatively flat (gentle rolling hills). The out/back course allowed you to see everyone else who was running. The encouragement was great. The running fit took random pictures of the runners and gave them away at their store. It was a really nice treat. The weather this year was ideal too. Started out pretty chilly (about 35 degrees but warmed up to about 55 at end of race). Perfect conditions.

"Very nice race" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This was my 3rd marathon and a personal best time. Although the weather was a little bad (45-50 and rain), it kept me from overheating! Very picturesque race.

"First-rate, low-key marathon" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This was my first marathon in 20 years. It was a wonderful re-entry point to the sport. The road is smooth and flat, and the scenery--particularly on the bay side--is spectacular. You can walk from your hotel to the start line. Everyone involved with the race was low-key and decidedly pleasant. A real treat.

"Fantastic Race!!" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This was my second marathon (Chicago was my first). This race was great. No crowding, and scenic, flat, fast course. A huge PR for me has me thinking about coming back next year. I would highly recommend this race to anyone. The only drawback is for those who want spectator support thoughout the whole race. My family actually enjoyed this race as spectators more than Chicago, because they were able to see me 4 times on the course, and also at the finish. Great job TCTC.

"The course is absolutely beautiful!" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 This was my 3rd marathon, and I ran a personal best. The course is spectacular, with water on one side and cherry trees in full bloom on the other. The route is not flat. It has modest grade changes throughout the entire run. There are no hills to speak of, but there are challenging inclines and declines from beginning to end. The organization was well done. Package pick-up was simple and everyone was extremely helpful. The Kids Fun Run was perfect for my 9-year old. She enjoyed the quarter-mile run, and this helped add to my enjoyment. The organizers for this event made us all feel at home. This is a perfect marathon for the runner who can appreciate the quiet, open road. Where there were spectators, there was a lot of support and encouragement. No bands, no huge crowds, no big city hype. Just an outstanding out-&-back course that ends inside the local high school track and field complex, giving you a final 0.2 miles of unexpected cheering. The finish makes you feel like a winner... no matter what place you finish in.

"Great Race for a Boston Qualifier" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 This race was exactly what I was looking for - fast, relatively flat, and not too crowded. I trained in the desert Southwest, so I could have used more sun and warmth, but really no complaints. Good organization, close, cheap, local hotels, and friendly runners.

"Great race, great organization, great location" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I've run Detroit and Chicago, and this race was, by far, the best. The course is absolutely beautiful, and there were no problems with traffic. I think the 1,000 person limit is just about right. I never felt crowded or alone. Even though there are some areas where spectators are scarce, the people who do show up (even in the rain) are wonderful. What a great time! Register early, as I know some people were shut out because of the cap. Thanks TCTC for putting on a stellar event. I'll be back!

"Perfect weekend getaway - better each year!" (about: 2003)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 My 3rd time at Bayshore. About 50F and overcast w/ a light mist/sprinkle. Exact same weather last 2 years. I consider this ideal for a marathon, YMMV. Hats off to TCTC for GREAT organization - they fixed the check-in SNAFU from 2002, kept the nice medal and got a REALLY COOL t-shirt design! Plan to register early. I'd guess the race cap (1,000 runners) will stay: 852 finishers this year & I don't think the course can support much more. Plenty of cheap rooms within walking distance of the race, but I'd recommend staying at a b&b. I stayed 10 minutes away @ Country Hermitage (www.countryhermitage.com) which I highly recommend. If you want to eat @ Roma's, GO EARLY. Otherwise go downtown (5 min. away) for a GREAT selection of restaurants and easy parking. Downtown is also a great place to hang out in with cafe's, bookstores, brewpub, etc.

"Bayshore is a beautiful course." (about: 2003)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 This year's Bayshore was much better than last year's. The organization at packet pick-up and change of location were much more conducive to the jump in participants over the last couple of years. The aid stations were perfectly spaced and the volunteers were great. The weather could have been better, a little less rain, but we can't control that. Overall, a beautiful marathon in a great location. Closing the entire course to traffic would be a great idea. The start mat for the chip this year was also a wonderful addition. |
