COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 4 This was the inaugural Suffolk Marathon and I thought the race was well-organized. The course is flat with just rolling hills (nothing major) straight out and back along 27A from Heckscher to Patchogue... not the most exciting course but the spectator turnout was better than I expected. Unfortunately we had a very humid day but at least the water and Powerade was everywhere. I arrived at the race very early and was directed to Field 7 (I think) which was pretty far from the start but that's how it goes (beats having to take a bus to the start!). I didn't mind.. but why not have some porta-potties over there? Or at the closed pool fieldhouse? Exiting after the race was 45 or so minutes in traffic because of lanes merging but overall I think this was a good, well-organized, convenient race that I would do again. And thanks to that announcer guy who does a lot of the LI races.. he always does a great job. |
