This race was so well organized and so well put together that it was a true pleasure to run it! The events immediately after the race were great, and the post race party was amazing!!! I loved all the perks, and although the crowds weren't huge, they were very encouraging and cheered you on. Volunteers were amazing! Great city, great race!

Hills!! Did anyone mention hills? Yes, there are plenty, but for whatever reason, these hills didn't seem to bother me. I usually hate to run hills. This is really a good race. I recommend it to all. There is something for everyone in LR. The weather was good; of course it became hot by the time I finished, but that is because I'm slow. I had a great time, nonetheless. Pizza at the finish line, great volunteers, and friendly folks! What else do you need?

I came to Little Rock after reading about your governor in Runner's World. After reading an earlier comment, I thought I would add my thoughts too. Yes - it is the biggest medal I have in my marathon war chest!!! I almost fell over when the volunteer put it around my neck. This was my first Little Rock Marathon and I plan to come back in 2006. I wish I had planned to spend more time there. It was probably one the best marathon I've participated in. The extras and the attention to the details is very nice. I got two shirts, a poster, a great run and one very large medal.

I am not sure that the gentleman from the earlier post ran the race I ran on March 6th. Perhaps he had a bad race or woke up on the wrong side of his shoes. The volunteers were very accommodating to me and a group of volunteers even took me back to my hotel, which has never happened to me in any of my 40 races. Where I run is very remote and you don't have all the luxuries that you get when you run in the states. I felt pampered and spoiled most of the race. Great work, Little Rock and Arkansas. I will be back.

I met the race directors while I was at the Chicago Marathon expo and they talked me into coming to LR to run their race! I knew the race would be a lot of fun because the race directors were wearing boa's and had a carnival going on in their booth. I came, I ran, and I loved the special touches Little Rock incorporated into their race (the Road Runner coat check and the perks tent were the best ideas, and I was very impressed). The course support was better than what I expected, and seeing Elvis made my day!
The spectators along the course were truly fantastic and called out everyone's names on their race bibs! Little Rock puts your name on your bib and what a difference that makes. I had not been to the state of Arkansas before. My husband went with me and we stayed in and went to Hot Springs the day after the race. Arkansas is a beautiful state, with lots of trees and lakes. The trip to Hot Springs was great. We even went to the horse race track and won! The guy who wrote that this race did not live up to his expectations must be crazy. It was completely the most enjoyable experience I have had in my marathon adventures. Chicago is a fun race but I will tell you, the organizers of this marathon sure put on a great event. Pre-race and post-race activities are well organized and I hope to come back next year to see the trees in their spring bloom again!

With apologies to Van Halen, that race director is just beautiful... and as for the race, in just its 3rd year, it is already in Runner's World's Top 10 Small Marathons and has grown significantly each year. It is not a PR race, as my LR average is 20 minutes slower than my non-LR average due to hills, but the organization, volunteers, spectators, scenery, post-race party, expo, traffic control, super comfy FINISHER shirt, etc. are all the best! I have heard that the race organizers travel all over the country just learning everything they can about how to make it even better. Come to Little Rock in 2006 and enjoy it before it gets TOO big!

P.S. As you also may have read in Runner's World, LR does have the world's largest finisher's medal. I have all 3 and they are HUGE!

This race did not live up to my expectations. The organization is good, with only a few oversights, but the course is tedious and dull, and spectator support is almost non-existent.

There was a new course layout for 2005, so perhaps it was better in previous years. This course is 26 miles of concrete and asphalt, running mostly through deserted streets of office buildings. Even the stretches outside of downtown Little Rock offered little in the way of interesting scenery. It is easily the ugliest course I?ve ever run.

The race organizers did not post a map of the course until a few weeks before race day. The map they posted lacked enough detail to use for planning a race strategy. A text course description was promised, but never delivered.

Aid stations were spaced inconsistently throughout, and especially in the final 6 miles, where some stations were as far as 2 miles apart, while others had less than half a mile between them.

There were at most a few thousand spectators on the course, and the people who did come out were not vocal. Most just stood and watched us run by.

The entry fee, at $65, is as much as many of the larger marathons. What you get for that money just isn?t worth it.

My 16th marathon and although it was a tough course (it took the wind out of me a few times!), it was very well worth the long journey to Little Rock to run this marathon. Awesome organization! I'd like to say I'll be back after I finish my 50 states!

I agree with almost all the comments already posted. This was a great little marathon, especially for me since I ran a PR! (Which I did not expect.) The hills were not that bad at all. It actually felt like there was more downhill to me. The volunteers, spectators, and homeowners were all very friendly. I remember several times when they would clap and cheer me on at several crucial points along the course when I was all by myself. The free parking, abundant food and nice weather was outstanding. My only minor complaint was that there seemed to be some confusion with the awards ceremony, which should have gone more smoothly. I would certainly recommend this race to anyone.

This race was a blast!!! Amazing spectators, warm weather, small challenging hills, great medal, a finisher shirt and lots of food after the race.

Didn't set a PR, but will be back next year for sure.
