For a smaller race venue. the expo, pasta dinner, spectators and finish line were great. Plenty of food and drink follow the race. I have not run previous races but I thought the course was better than a lot of marathons with a mixture of residential, campus, bike trails. Race organizers should be congratulated on doing a great job.

Just completed my third Fargo Marathon. Impressive "controlled growth" by the marathon committee. Making strides every year. Nice addition of the pace teams this year (especially when my watch battery crapped out on race morning - my thanks to the PacerJim teams). Starting and finishing at the FargoDome is a logistical delight. Plenty of room to warm up inside or out. Plenty of porta-potties. The expo is nice for a "mid size" event. Good job of incorporating the pasta meal and speakers on the floor of the dome. Minor flooding of the Red River sent us to residential streets instead of bike paths along the river, but you obviously can't control Mother Nature.

Kudos to the spectators and fans! It was another tough year for spectators (but great for runners!) as temps hovered in the upper 40's, with overcast skies, and it was pretty windy (just think, it was 90 degrees the day before!). Again, look at a map; expect windy conditions in Fargo. To the credit of the organizers, they have done a good job to keep us "sheltered" in town as much as possible. As always, the course is flat and easy. PR's and Boston qualifying are yours for the taking. Nice touch of running through the Concordia College campus in Moorhead. A nice diversion at that point of the race (mile 18). The crowds early on (8th St.) rival Twin Cities and Grandma's, which is exciting! The crowds thin a lot for the full marathoners, but absolutely loved the Parrotheads at mile 25!! Great job of having two Jumbo-trons on the finish line inside the dome and two showing the runners just outside the dome so fans and spectators know when their runner is coming in.

Great post-race food spread (pasta, smoothies, cookies, bagels, bananas, etc.). Showers and massages available in the dome afterward. Thank you to Mark Knutson and his staff for a well run race. I can't say enough how much of a "big time" race weekend Fargo Marathon is becoming!

"Great experience" (about: 2007)

This was my 2nd marathon and while it's tough to beat the first, this was a great experience - everything from the cool shirts & bags, to the volunteers, to the indoor finish, to the wonderful spectator support - even on a cold, windy day! My only suggestion would be a better map and directions for out of town spectators - my family never did find me... or maybe they just liked the warmth of the dome. :-) Great job!

"Great race; great organization besides start" (about: 2007)

First Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 5

This was my first marathon ever. Last year I ran the Fargo 1/2 Marathon. Everything was wonderful - very positive atmosphere to be in! Only thing is to PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE sub-organize the starting area so that all of the 5K people, especially groups of people walking or pushing strollers, are at the far back of the line. It is dangerous for those first couple miles to be running along and then get stopped suddenly to try to side-step and get around a person walking, or worse yet, a group of 4+ walking side by side. Those who are not concerned about time, please be considerate and move to the back. Aside from that, it was a wonderful experience! Maybe I need to push my way up towards the front more!

This race was great. The organization was excellent. The set-up of the course and the handling of the stations were great. The best feature of this race has to be the support from the spectators! I will definitely be back and look forward to great things from this race in the years to come!

I ran this marathon last weekend and had a GREAT time! The temps were perfect (50s to 60s) and skies were overcast. The people that came out to cheer were amazing. I think it was the best crowd support I've ever seen (and I've done bigger races like LA and Vegas). Plenty of food (pasta, bagels, fruit, etc.) at the finish. I would highly recommend this race!

"Run Fast; Run Friendly; Run Fargo" (about: 2007)

First Marathon

I had run the Fargo 1/2 Marathon last year. After the great experience in Fargo, I decided to train for the whole 26.2. I could not have had a better experience! Everything was so well organized. I picked up my packet in 10 minutes (not even a line). I was surprised to see the zip-up mock t-shirt and over-the-shoulder bag as part of our packet pick up. I stopped and talked to the individuals at the pace table and was on my way. On the day of the race I could hardly wait to start running. The course was VERY WELL marked. I had heard a full marathon runner broke off into the 1/2 marathon group at mile 5.5. That would be the runner's fault for not paying attention. What makes the Fargo Marathon is the fans! Belly dancers, singers, music, great volunteers and fantastic water stations. What more to keep you going! And lets not forget the finish. In the dome on the Jumbo-tron. I felt like a rock star. I will be back again next year. Maybe only runnning the 1/2 marathon. In the words of the people of Fargo... 26.2 UFFDA!

"Worth the Travel Time!" (about: 2007)

My wife and I ran the 2007 marathon together and we were very impressed with the support from the Fargo community.

Extremely friendly volunteers and lots of water, Gatorade and GU - couldn't ask for more support on the course.

The finish inside the Fargo Dome is truly memorable.

Having done some races in larger cities (Atlanta, Dallas, Richmond, Louisville), I appreciated the easy access to the expo and start/finish, all of which are at the Dome.

Personally, I like the small to mid-size marathons. I think they give you a better sense of the local community, which is one of the main reasons we travel to marathons.

I highly recommend this race to anyone looking for a race in ND or for an enjoyable alternative to the mega-marathons.

Thanks, Fargo!

This was my first half-marathon and it was a blast! I wanted to keep running! Although it was in the 40s and super windy (it IS Fargo!), the course was well-planned and kept in residential (read: sheltered!) areas throughout. There were entertainment, fans and volunteers at every mile. Run this one!
