"Fargo is fun, fun, fun" (about: 2007)

This is my 35th state on my quest to complete the 50 states and one of my top 5 best marathon memories. From the expo at the Fargodome to the finish line... top shelf. The expo's simultaneous speaker/dinner is a great idea. Bus tours, of course, plenty of parking, and merchandise/expo booths - all good. Black, long-sleeve, hi-tech shirt, which can be heat-pressed with the finisher date at an unbelievable Scheels Sport Store in town after race. Special gluten-free tables set up for non-pasta eaters after the race finish. Course is flat, fast and fun-filled. Mile stops featured friendly people in costumes. There were square dancing, a full boat in the street, and bands galore. Also, plenty of sports drinks, water and supplies. The finish line is inside the Fargodome with mega screens to record finish. Yes, put this on your marathon list for next year. Weather can be tricky - the day before the marathon it was 85 degrees. The day of the marathon it was 42 with windy conditions. A powerful lightning storm the night before cooled temps down for us. Fargo, great job. Thanks.

"Very Enjoyable; Highly Recommended" (about: 2007)

2 previous marathons | 1 Fargo Marathon

I traveled a long way to go to Fargo and it was well worth it. Not only was it the best organized event I have participated in, the course and the fans lived up to their billing. Course was flat and fast and everyone was helpful and friendly. Weather went from 85 to 45 over night but at race time it was perfect (although windy in spots). Enjoyed the expo and the pre/post-race activities in the Fargo Dome. Having hotels close to the facility and the airport also added to the convenience. Accomplished my PR so now I am off to Boston next April. Great event, nice city, and friendly fans - what more can you ask for?

"Great Race! Very Organized! Insane Crowd Support!" (about: 2007)

Wow, where do I start? Everything from the expo and packet pick-up to the start and finish of the race was amazing! I would definitely recommend this race to anyone and everyone. The crowd support was amazing and the finish line (with a straight shot perfect for sprinting =D) into the FargoDome was an unforgettable experience. The course was very senic and went by a lot of residential areas. Very organized from frequent aid stations to food and bag pick-up after the race. I will definitely be back next year!!! Thank you Mark Knutson, and thank you Fargo Marathon!!!

"Much better than 2005, but still needs improvement" (about: 2007)

Much better than 2005, but needs improvement on post-race food was poor - pasta was MUCH better in 2006!!!! Course needs more porta-potties....

Crowd support was great, especially on 8th street.

"A good, fast race" (about: 2007)

Very organized, well run, flat course - you can only do so much with Fargo. Community support was awesome, the city is very friendly and easy to spend a weekend in, and hotels and restaurants are reasonable and accessible. They did all they could to make the route interesting and to keep us out of the wind, but hey, it's Fargo!

"Amazing First-Marathon Experience" (about: 2007)

1 previous marathon | 1 Fargo Marathon

I chose Fargo as my first marathon because I graduated from NDSU in 1993 and it seemed like a perfect reason to go back to Fargo for yet another memory. As this was my first I have nothing to compare it to, but if other marathons are better I need to run those as well because Fargo was amazing. Looking for a flat course? You got it. Want to see fans on virtually every street cheering you on? You got it. Want a cool technical shirt? You got it. How about an awesome medal? Got that too.

I had one minor concern. At the finish, my Garmin measured the course at 26.63 miles. I knew my Garmin would read longer than 26.2 because of how a course is measured, but that seemed like a large overage. Experienced runners have told me that would not be uncommon at all, so it does not seem like an issue to me anymore.

It was windy for sure, but the course layout kept you sheltered from it as much as possible - great planning as far as course layout.

As my first marathon experience, I give Fargo a perfect rating. I will absolutely be back in 2008!

"A lot of extra perks at this race!!!!" (about: 2007)

4-5 previous marathons | 1 Fargo Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

I ran the Fargo 1/2 Marathon. They had quite a few awesome sponsors who provided extra perks - Addidas provided cloth backpack bags (instead of a plastic bag at pickup), water jugs and a Polaroid picture in a paper frame. Scheel's Sports gave out free t-shirts and more. Also, receiving a tech shirt instead of your same ol' boring cotton t-shirt was way cool!! As you know, it's all about the extras! The course was flat, lots of music on the way, fans were great and talk about a unique finish... finishing inside a dome? Totally way cool!

"Flat and Fast" (about: 2007)

Each year they have improved this marathon in all areas. The course is now terrific; you should PR here. Great starting location and the finish in the dome is nice in good weather or bad. This is the only race in 15 years where I have not had to wait in line to get a biffy. Great event for spectators as it is easy for them to follow you around the course without traffic hassles. Highly recommended for your first or 50th.

"best spectators and traffic control of any city" (about: 2007)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Fargo Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 5

I've now completed 25 marathons and Fargo is the flattest course I've ever seen (and I've done Chicago several times). The traffic control was the absolute best. Nearly every single person offered cheers and encouragement - the folks there are genuinely happy to be hosting.

"Good Race" (about: 2007)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Fargo Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

I really enjoyed this race. It has a great feel about it. It seemed to me that the race was a big deal to the whole town and everyone we saw/met knew about the race and all seemed excited about the race.

The race was very well organized. Expo was easy. Number pick a breeze. Great technical shirt.

The race course was dead flat (then again the whole area was dead flat.) My only issue with the course was the number of turns. I went back to the course map and counted 52 90-degree turns. Now, with the wind (and the wind was very strong), this helped some, but it did seem that quite often, you would only go a block or two before you were turning again.

The entire city seemed to come out to the race. In the residential areas, it seemed like almost every house have 3-4 people out at the end of their driveway cheering.

Race finish in the Fargodome was cool. And you didn't have to worry about a space blanket, as you were inside.

And the Saturday night party was the real deal with a great band.

Only downside to Fargo was that we went up Thursday and, well, all the locals we talked to about what there was to see/do pretty much said "not much."

So if you want a good race, this is one to consider.
