I did this one in the fall. My Garmin still had this course at 26.8.... Still, I enjoyed the course with everyone that helped out. This was the second leg of my first double. I did the Cowtown Marathon the day before, with the same cold wind. It would be nice if the organizers of both marathons could come up with some sort of jacket, medal, or shirt for those who completed both. "The Texas Two step?" Or how about, "Do the Texas Double?" I don't know... just a thought. I wasn't the only person to make the trip.

I first ran the MM Half Marathon in fall '06 and we did not even get finisher medals. I ran it last fall, and we got nice finisher medals, but the route was changed a bit and not clearly marked. I got lost. This year, we got medals, the route was clearly marked AND I got a finisher shirt!

This race gets better organized each year. It is a small race. It is a hard race, and one that I will run each year.

Nancy and team, keep up the good work!

"Beautiful, hilly and forget about your PR" (about: 2008)

What can I say? I have run more than 45 marathons and this was one of the toughest I have ever run. The organizers put a lot effort into success in this race, and I think they met the goals; there was a lot water, it was well marked, and there were nice volunteers and good police security. The only sad thing is that there were not too many fans cheering for you along the course. :( But in general, everything was A+. Congratulation and keep doing terrific job. The only advice I could say to new runners for this race is: enjoy as much as you can the beautiful scenery and forget about your PR.

This was my 37th marathon finish, and second at Waco. I had hoped that my flat-land training was intense enough that I could conquer the hills this year. But I ended up walking them again. I could have used some water a bit earlier to get started, but otherwise, there were plenty of fluid stations on the course. This course is beautiful (except for the uphill sections) and we had wonderful weather again this year. Turns were well marked this year, although I missed the final separation point and ran on the half-marathon course along the Brazos (an extra 0.005 miles?). By that point in the race, it didn't matter for me. I need some elevation changes to practice on.

This is the 3rd time I have run this marathon and I have to say that this course was much more enjoyable with the addition of the residential areas on Fishpond and Rigdewood. The weather was warm, but the aid stations were prepared and ready for us. Maybe they should consider Gatorade at every stop after mile 13 next time. I think the course was over by a little; my GPS showed 26.8 miles. This marathon was an enjoyable experience.

I ran the marathon in 2006 and ran the half this year. I intend to be back next year to run the full marathon again because I really love the course. The first 5 miles are flat, good for a warm-up before you start on the inclines. Yes, there are serious hills in Cameron Park, but who cares? Train for them and enjoy the scenery. Really great to run by the river in the last couple of miles and then across the suspension bridge at the end. Organization has improved since I was last there. Volunteers were excellent, and plenty of fluids available. This is the anti-Rock 'n Roll: small, but perfectly formed. No hoopla; just wonderful running. I gave 4 stars for spectators, not because of their numbers but because of the enthusiasm of the few that were there.

Who would have thunk it; big steep hills in Texas?

Great host hotel... the race starts and finishes almost in the hotel lobby! Sweet!

This race is pretty easy for the last couple of miles, and all of the first half of the race. Now, the second half has some hills... and if you believe that the first 20 miles constitute the first half of the marathon, and the last six make up the second half... my story still remains the same. There are killer hills in the second half.

You need to enjoy yourself running past the 20-mile marker. Soon you will find Cameron Park. Man alive, the climb to that college would be tough anywhere in the course, but after 20 miles, it is quite a jolt. I passed relay runners going up that hill... so it wasn't just the 20 miles that made people walk; it was the HILL!

How come the course profile doesn't ever seem to match what my legs feel? I swear that there were two more hills after the killer hill... and it's tough to see that on the course profile. Now, the last two miles were nice and smooth... an easy finish if you have anything left!

Few spectators. Lots of rest stops. Most rest stops were pretty basic, featuring only water. There was more fruit later on, some cookies, some crackers and pretzels and gel as well. But basically, water everywhere; plenty of fluid replacement drink, just not at every stop (not sure if we were told the key to where Gatorade would be); gels, and food were towards the end, when you needed them. At the end, there was also food and drink... chocolate milk! Yum!

You can't help to notice the second half has hills, but it also passes through lovely neighborhoods, a lush golf course, and a lake - and you run along the river. The first half has a great tour through the Baylor campus, which is very clean, open and nice... and the first half also runs through the city, but they have pretty much closed most of the city for the race, so you own the roads. Like all small races, everybody was friendly. I had some great food locally; I've no idea what the name of little places were though.

Eat your heart out; this year there was a party for runner 220, who was 70 and finished his 220th marathon! There was really yummy chocolate cake and boiled shrimp! But that was for his party.

"Hills and More Hills" (about: 2008)

For a small marathon, it was nice to have a long loop course. The course is very hilly. The only flat spots were the first five or so miles and between 16 and 19. The hills starting in Cameron Park at mile 21 and 23 were killer ups and downs.

The course was very well supported with volunteers. Plenty of porta-johns along the way. Other than some family fan support, there were no spectators. With it being a loop course, you do get lonely. I ran miles 13 to 20 and was never passed, nor did I pass anyone. The course was also well marked.

All in all, a tough, challenging course. It was very well organized, and it had plenty of volunteer support.

This was my 40th marathon. Did this in '04 and '05, and it was hard then. The course was routed through the neighborhoods (all hills). I liked the change. It had better scenery and lots of shade. GPS had the course at 26.8 miles (1/2-mile long) with total ascent 3,793 feet and total descent 3,761 feet. Temp was close to 80 degrees towards the end. I never cramped. There was plenty of water and Gatorade on the course. It lived up to its description as a "highly challenging course." I would do it again. I highly recommend hill training if you plan to do this one. Not a P.R. course.

"Good course; need more water at aid stations" (about: 2007)

This was my 4th marathon, and it was a good one. The hills in Cameron Park are a killer, as advertised. I felt alone during this time, and could have used some support from spectators or volunteers. I know it is a small place, but that would help with the mental part of getting to the finish.

I like that it was small compared to the other marathons I have done in the past; I got first in my age group.

I would like to see more water stations; if not for my family, I would have been in trouble after the dam.
