 "Excellent!" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This is a great race. I did it 13 years ago and it has improved since then. There were many more enthusiastic spectators this time and the removal of Hains Point is a definite upgrade. I agree with the comments that the Ultima was bad. It tasted much better when I mixed it at home. It was exceedingly strong during the race. Even though I finished way behind my goal time it was still an excellent experience! | |

 "An Exciting Romp" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my second marathon and I had hopes of breaking 4 hours ... oops, missed it by 20 minutes. The course winds through the Greater Washington DC area but be prepared for 6 miles at the start runnning around the Penatgon, an architectual marvel but not particularly exciting as you run through, around and by the parking lots. Heading into Rock Creek Park is beautiful but it is uphill, ever so slightly, which takes its toll. From the Lincoln Memorial to the Capitol is a gradual climb but hell awaits you at mile 22.5 when you head onto the 14th street bridge; boring, windy, hilly and strewn with walking wounded. The finish is a bear, just before mile 26 you have to climb 110 feet in a few hundred yards. The crowds are everywhere, except the 14th street bridge, and provide tremendous support. The organizers and volunteers are super! Particular thanks to the the Marine Lieutenant who untied the chip from my shoe, I probably would still be bent over. Well worth the experience. | |

"What a great event." (about: 2002)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my 19th Marathon and my most memorable. The Marines were great, the crowd was awesome and the weather was perfect. A wonderful way to see the Capitol area and feel the history. The MCM rocks! I can't wait until next year. The only comment for improvement would be more water stops, there was only one every mile or every other mile. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 5 Pre-race organization was terrible! The corrals weren't organized, anyone could get into them. There weren't enought toilets, which made you have to stand in line for over 30 minutes at least. There was no time to get ready and we were early! There should only be runners allowed around the corral line up and the warm up area. There were barely any toilets along the course, you had to wait in line for them. I lost about 5 minutes of my time. | |

"I enjoyed seeing runners in passing on the route." (about: 2002)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 I thought the route was great. So were the marines, they were quite helpful. They gave me the inspiration to go on even though I was hurting. The spectators were also great. I enjoyed most seeing runners that were ahead of me and then seeing runners behind me. I was able to spot my own group runners to give high-fives. | |

"Marines Sure Know How to Run a Marathon" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 That last mile is always a killer for me, but how could I not be pumped up with the cheering crowd and the 'Iwo Jima' statue in sight to inspire me. Thanks to all the Marines for their support and encouragement along the course. My husband and I both enjoyed this marathon. Best long-sleeved T-shirt and handsome medal. | |

 "NO MORE ULTIMA" (General Comments)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 4 Course- Beautiful Spectators- Second only to Boston Organization- Baggage Table not well marked- need better signs. Sports Drink- HORRIBLE. Please, please, please get Gatorade, or, at a minimum Powerade. I will never run another marathon (yours or anyone elses) that has Ultima. Drinking it made my stomach sick. I mentioned to others and they also had similar comments. | |

"Great race all around!" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my second year running this marathon and it was excellent. Great weather, fans, organization, and course. The fans that come out are just great and for such a large event, the organizers do a wonderful job. I didn't check any bags in, so I don't know how that went after the race. Everything that I experienced on race day was great (except for that feeling in my legs starting around mile 20). Highly recommend this marathon for veterans and first timers. One suggestion - the directors should post road construction information on the website before the race. Should have been more warning about the condition of M Street in Georgetown, especially since there is a water stop located there. | |
