"what a fun time!" (about: 2001)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

I ran this marathon with a group called the National AIDS Marathon Training Program. I raised money for AIDS Research. What a fun time it was! I would recommend it for a first marathon. What ever you do wear bright clothes because there are so many people there! Tape your name on your shirt (especially if it's your first marathon!) The fans really cheer you on! Can't wait to run in 2003. If you have any questions please drop me an email asharrai@hotmail.com

"This is a fantastic first marathon." (about: 2002)

I did MCM as my first last Oct, and it was nearly perfect. Great weather, no sitting around on buses to get to the start, relatively flat course, and great spectator support. Only negative was that at the end, the meeting place signs with letters on them all blew over; and since my cell wasn't functioning I met my husband only by chance roaming through the crowd of thousands! Gotta fix that! Be forewarned; look at the finish area beforehand and pick a spot to meet. Special thanks to all those Marines who come to help out and cheer the runners on!

"GOOD TO GO!" (about: 2001)

I have run the Marine Corp Marathon twice already and training for my third MCM. The people involved in organizing the race do a fantastic job! They're supportive and encouraging. The course is beautiful and it truly makes you appreciate our nations capital. Most of all the spectators are AWESOME and give you the drive to finish the 26.2 miles. And last but not least the Marines who work the race all day in their cammies are to be commended. They are supportive and encouraging as well....SEMPER FI!!!

"Inspiring" (General Comments)

I ran the Marine Corps Marathon in 1993, 1995, 1997, and 1998. It was my first Marathon in 1993 and it was a great run. I have ran a total of 5 different Marathon courses and this was by far the best; the monuments, spectators, and scenery were great. The last .2 miles rounds up the hill around the Marine Corps War Memorial ... truly inspiring. Semper Fi.

"This marathon was AMAZING!" (about: 2001)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 5

This was my first marathon and it truly tested every aspect of running! It gave me the mental and physical challenge I was looking for. The ending .2 miles was spectacular, (all up hill!), I am still in awe that I was able to make it. If this is your first marathon good luck and beware of the SLUG BUS!

"Amazing!!!" (General Comments)

This was my first marathon, and it was incredible. I was carried by the spirit of both the runners and the spectators for all 26 miles. I plan to return every year until my legs won't take me, and even then I will figure out a way to do it.

"THE BEST RACE EVER!" (about: 2001)

I know for sure that I'm going to run it next year. The enthusiasm of the runners and spectators gets you through the race with strong determination. The best marathon I've run.

"A 'Must Run' Marathon" (about: 2001)

Wow! What a race. This one is quite unique and definitely should be on everyone's list. The crowd support was very good with big crowds in all of the right places. The Marines were phenomenal in their support.

The course was very nice. A bit boring in the start and the end, but the middle through Georgetown and around the Capitol and other monuments more than makes up for it.

The course is pretty fast with not many hills although the bridge around mile 23 was a bit tough.

My only minor complaint is that it would have been nice to have water stations every 1 mile (instead of two) from mile 20 onwards.

Great race. Perhaps my favorite (I have run NYC, Houston (3), Austin (2), Disney, and Singapore(2)).

"Excellent Marathon , you must experience it." (about: 2001)

COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 5

This is the third time I have run the Marine Corps Marathon and it was my 16th marathon. The marines have their own magic and it is a privilege to be a part of their pride, history and courage. Yes there are long lines for the packet pick up, but I flew in on friday and for me there were no lines at all, the exibits were free from people and it was exciting to talk to all the participants. The course was fantastic, cool breeze at times but I had the right running gear to off set getting too cold. I do recommend more water stations especially in the last six miles of the race. And the finish area has to be expanded, too crowded. This year the meeting area for familis to gather was a disaster due to the balloons that are supposed to guide you blew away. It was a massive search to find your familly. All in all bravo to the corps for staffing this marathon I will never forget this race the spirit, spectators, and marines thanking us for running it. Fantastic.
