 "great course" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 3 My fifth marathon. Excellent course layout, tree covered roads, interesting sights, and friendly people and supporters. Mostly level, some small 'bunny hills' early on but nothing stressful. Some minor traffic control problems with a few cars wandering near but race not affected. Only minus was few people on the streets to cheer us on, but those who were there were great. Excellent course and experience overall.. | |

"Low Key, Friendly Folks, This One Will Grow on Ya'" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 This was a really great race genuinely pleased with the spirit and friendliness of all of the volunteers, organizers and the townspeople who clapped & cheered along the way. My biggest Heros were the policeman who kept traffic at bay while being berated by a pissed off motorist & the little girl at the end of her driveway who was handing out lemonade & gummybears. If you need a race with hills, loud cheering throngs, bands playing music on every street corner or lotsa glitziness, you'll probably need to go elsewhere. However, if you want to cherish some small yet memorable marathon moments, this is the race for you! I'll be back next year for sure! Lamentations?? 1. A few more hills would be nice! 2. Where was Dear Foots Knee Stone? I coulda used that rub! 3. Could we go by the falls next year? Other than that, I had a great race and a memorable experience. | |

"GOOD MARATHON, GOOD VALUE" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 The town of buffalo can look like a ghost town when you first arrive, but the marathon has some fairly decent scenery. Other than a few hills, a fast and flat course that gave me a PR. The runners are very friendly, and I held up conversation all the way up to mile 20. Only $25 to run. You'll definitely get your money's worth. | |

 "A good marathon for first time marathoner" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 4 Although I have run a number of races including 30k and 20 mile, this was my first marathon. I know it must take a lot of time to organize and plan a race as large as this. Overall I would rate it a very good race. The value for the entry fee, $25, was excellent. The enthusiasm from the spectators and volunteers was contagious. The local running clubs (especially the Buffalo Triathletes) did a great job at the water stops. Negatives include the website not being up to date. The website stated the starting point to be a the Adam's Mark Hotel, when it was acutally a few blocks north. The registration and packet pickup location was changed and that was also not updated on the website. Traffic control was excellent at most locations, but in a couple of major intersections I was stopping traffic myself. But at least this kept things interesting! My biggest beef is the lack of support from the City of Buffalo and especially its local media. I went through at least 3 intersection where motorists were yelling and beeping at the traffic control and police because they were being delayed. If the Buffalo News, which had no article of the marathon in its sports section, and radio promoted the marathon, the public would have been better informed and perhaps there would have been more spectators. It is a shame that the city and its media could not have supported the race in which the director and its volunteers worked so hard. Overall its a very good race. More local support and organization would make it an excellent marathon. | |

 "Fast course, needs a little work" (about: 2002)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 1 45+ minute wait in line for Pasta Party- Please consider new venue for 2003. Adequate number of portajohns at start, but they were 3 blocks away; adequate number on course. Winding course with lots of turns; good traffic control, but it was not evident at some intersections which way to go, and traffic control volunteers were not pointing the way. Few spectators. 2002 had ideal temperatures, occasional sun, but windy. Needs more water stops. | |

 "my first marathon was great" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 It was my first marathon and I thought it was great a course... being only a senior in high school and 17 years old. It was a great accomplishment. I will be doing it this year.. the people support around the whole course was great..compared to prior marathons that I went due to my dad running over 35 of them... the fans and the support from people were great...especially the cheerleaders that were along the course..a lot people that you see maybe once or twice a year gave you your support..the notice of the race was out on the tv and radio and people were just out to support you..I had a great time. | |

 "Okay race but closed down finish line early" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 The race is good and the race director tries hard to make it runner friendly. Great sweat-shirt and pizza, and beer at the finish even better. Negative was moving back of packers to sidewalks early and at 4:50 mark they were basically closing down the finish line. If there is a six hour clock why close down an hour early? | |

"If you're a runner, you'll love this marathon!" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 The marathon course is almost entirely flat with the notable exception of Forest Lawn Cemetery,which is a challenging couple of miles. You wind through some beautiful tree-lined neighborhoods. Buffalo is an old city whose grandeur has long passed, however running the streets gives you a feel as to how the city grew up. The course runs past many relics of this city's better days. It's a history buff's dream course. Heck, you even pass the grave of President Millard Fillmore. That's worth the entry fee right there. The crowds were suprisingly thick in some areas. The neighborhood families really seemed to embrace the marathon. It was great to be cheered by young families. Organization of the event was top-notch, though there were some legitimate complaints from people at the back of the marathon. A nasty thunderstorm blitzed through about 4 and a half hours into the run sending some traffic volunteers scurrying for cover. This left some runners to their own devices as to how to finish the course. Finally, I'd like to dispell the notion that it snows in late May in Buffalo. The weather for the first 3 hours of the run was cool and sunny. Perfect marathon weather. | |

"Good Marathon - Decent Course" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 4 Chose this one as my 'May' Marathon this year. Can't exactly put a finger on the reason why, but, this marathon just didn't excite me a whole lot. However, I can't necessarily blame the marathon. Perhaps it's just my personal disappointment over a rather poor performance when I had expected better of myself. Also, the fact that my best race photo ever had me perfectly centered on the side of a Buffalo City garbage truck 20 feet to my left side was a bummer - - but I can't blame Buffalo for either of those things! The course had plenty of interesting features, I was amazed at how MANY traffic control people there were. Most of the course had what I considered to be adequate spectator support (but then I've run a number of very small marathons where the spectators were nearly non-existent). Post Race festivities were inside, with adequate places to sit down and TONS of food - - not necessarily 'runners' food but after a marathon a good load of fat and sugar tastes pretty darn good! If travelling from somewhere else spend the next day at Niagara Falls - - that way no matter what you think of the marathon the trip will definitely be worth it!! | |

 "Buffalo Marathon is back - New course for 2001" (about: 2001)
COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 The Buffalo Erie Buick Marathon is a marathon for runners who like smaller races (403 finishers) with much spectator support. Great weather, good course (winds around city of Buffalo and suburbs). The Buffalo marathon was not run in 2000, but had a great comeback this year. |
