"Well-organized and great party at the finish" (about: 2007)

Three years ago I ran the marathon and the flat, quick course resulted in a PR. This year, I ran the half marathon and found that the best qualities of previous years' races are just getting better. I gave the course four stars because I prefer hills.

"Beautiful area, and fun but challenging race!" (about: 2007)

I am continually surprised at the beauty of this state. Being my first half-marathon, the scenery enabled me to focus on something other than my own misery! Not only was it beautiful, but the people also emitted an infectious positive energy that also enabled me to keep running and not lie down on the path in defeat. We also had a great hotel. Overall, my husband and I had a great experience and plan to do it again - maybe 26.2 next year...?

"beautiful course, great atmosphere at finish" (about: 2007)

Very nice race - well managed. The path was great to run on, and it had scenery and history. The finish area had a great atmosphere, with friendly people, and the Arby's sandwich was a nice extra. Only weak point is the start area. Will certainly run again next year.

Loved this half marathon, despite the heat. Such a pleasure to run on a soft surface and enjoy the wonderful fall. Very well organized; I would run it again and recommend it to all.

Great race - the volunteers and staff were excellent. The fans were great too. The heat made this race very tough.

"Beautiful course - nature at its finest" (about: 2007)

The scenery and beauty of this course were why I chose it, and it did not disappoint me. Of course the weather was another story. The temp. hit 90 that afternoon and although there were trees and shade, I'd estimate approx. 5 miles where you were running in the sun. I'd really like to run it again when the weather is cooler. The official hotel was all right, although I'd skip their pasta dinner special - it's not worth it.

It was a great surface to run on - fun to share the road with the out and back crowd. You get to see how others we faring, especially with the heat. One thing they could improve on is the logo - holy cow, that is some ugly shoe...!

I would recommend (and have recommended) this marathon to anyone. I loved the scenery and I thought the organization was great. Everyone was very helpful. Great beer at the finish too!

"I enjoyed this race, a nice change from city races" (about: 2007)

I enjoyed this race. It is a nice change from city-based races. My suggestions for some improvements are to change the finish line so that you don't turn a corner but can sprint straight into the finish line and to have a bigger variety of food at the after party. Also, a Dri-Fit shirt would be great, and have more size smalls. Women runners are small. Overall a great time. I recommend it and plan to return.

"Great race for off-roaders: flat & fast!!" (about: 2007)

First Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 2

This was my first time running the Towpath; I did the 1/2 marathon. The course is flat and mostly off-road - great for anyone who enjoys a change of pace from running on pavement. Scenery is fantastic, esp. due to the time of year and the fall foliage. Not a good race for spectators, as there are very few places to see the runners. Aid stations and registration were managed very well!
