"LOVED IT" (about: 2011)

Loved the course and variety. The addition of the neighborhood was great - perfect weather. A few hills in the middle but nothing major... I think you can call it FLAT! I hope you don't change this course....

2010 course WAS flat as advertised. 2011 course was NOT. Southwood has HILLS. MANY of them. Let's be honest in our advertising; a hill is a hill. People from flat places would like to train properly for them.

Wonderful race. Not crowded - nice and flat out-and-back, and it felt almost like a training run at times because it was such a quiet course. Great organization.

"Tallahassee Marathon - A blast" (about: 2010)

This is my hometown marathon. It was also my first. The organization for the event was perfect and I enjoyed finishing on the track. The course is virtually as flat as can be expected. The best part of this marathon are the volunteers. There are not a lot of spectators but the aid/water station volunteers are very motivating and pushed me to finish when I wanted to quit.

"Great Race Every Year!!!" (about: 2010)

6-10 previous marathons | 3 Tallahassee Marathons

This is my 3rd time doing the race, and I love it! The volunteers are amazing. Very, very well organized. I have run in six different marathons all over and this one is my favorite. The aid stations are perfect - just the right number. As far as the course, I am a native of Tallahassee, and there is a stretch that is not the prettiest, but it is very, very flat and there are great volunteers cheering you on. The rest of the course gets prettier when you get to the St. Marks trail. They give out great tech shirts and goody bags. This is a must every year from now on!

"Great Race" (about: 2010)

Three of us ran the half marathon, but we couldn't have asked for a better race. The pasta dinner and guest speaker were great. We enjoyed seeing our fellow runners, getting those last-minute instructions and having a (maybe not motivational - but cool nonetheless) speech the night before. We really loved having the gym to stretch in the morning of the race because I was really concerned about getting too cold before it started. The course was great (really - no hills... I was surprised) and the ample water stops really helped. The best two parts were being able to finish on the track, and one in our group spent some time on the course with Benji Durden. As was pointed out at dinner: in what other sport do you get to do that. It was just an all around great race experience and we look forward to doing it again.

"Fast and flat - stellar, small race!" (about: 2010)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Tallahassee Marathon

I originally chose this race because I'm a huge fan of John L. Parker, Jr. and he was the keynote after the pasta dinner. Figured it was worth the drive down from Atlanta to see him - but wow, I'd come back next year regardless of who is speaking! The pasta dinner was quite fun (and a great price) and Parker was amazing! He patiently signed all our books and posed for pics, and was just a generally great guy. Bennji Durden - 1980 boycotted Olympic marathon team - was also there! Very cool surprise guest - and another really nice guy (I love the fact that marathon elite are so often so friendly to "mortals"... one of the great things about the sport!).

The course is as advertised - fast and flat! I just ran the half for this one (have a total of 7 half and 6 fulls to compare to). Great race! Excellent traffic control for the few intersections that needed it. Most of the run was on a closed trail - so it was easy to focus on running! You're never running alone, but never fighting crowds either. The logistics are all spot on! The trail doesn't lend itself to large numbers of spectators but there were a good number of them at the trail-heads and the area around FSU. Given the size of the race, the number that turned out exceeded my expectations! If you're out to run an event marathon, like Chicago, this isn't your race. If you want a well run race with a low entry free and quality organization, I highly recommend this!

"Very well done indeed!" (about: 2010)

This is a good race for anyone who doesn't want to run a lot of hills, and who doesn't need a lot of hoopla to do it. The weather was perfect this year. The start line had plenty of heated space to get out of the cold and also plenty of real, clean, indoor bathrooms. There were plenty of aid stations along the way, which were stocked with a good variety of snacks and beverages. Everyone was helpful, and I mean everyone - from the host hotel to the finish line workers. I would definately recommend this race to anyone looking for an inexpensive race with lots of flat, smooth surface (rail-trail most of the way).

"Great race and EXTREMELY flat!" (about: 2010)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Tallahassee Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

If you're looking for a flat race, this is it! If you want shade, this could be it too (even though this year we had 100% cloud cover). The course is lined with trees, 90% of the way.

Pros:
1) Staff worked with me, in case I needed to change my registration to next year, due to an injury I was dealing with.
2) At check-in, a worker gave me her cell number in case I had trouble finding the starting line in the dark.
3) Host hotel gave me a much appreciated 2 hours later checkout time.
4) Police and volunteers were at every intersection making traffic a non issue.
5) Did I mention the flat course?
6) Free massages after the race.
7) Lots of parking, right by the track (where the race begins and ends).

Cons:
1) If BIG medals mean a lot to you, you might be disappointed. I wasn't, but you might be.
2) No expo, in case you needed items at packet pickup.

Very flat, very fast course. Not only my PR, but a Boston qualifying time too.
