COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 1 FANS: 2 Such a good idea... but such bad execution. Registration at the expo was a gong show. One guy was standing on a chair trying to herd people in the right direction. One help desk lady was doing her very best, but with a line-up of registration problems, it took almost 60 minutes. The race shirt is downright embarrassing. I only found after I'd left the expo that there were no pins for the bib or plastic straps for the chip in my bag - so I had to go back to get them, only to find there were no plastic straps. Brutal. The start - another gong show. Entertainment at the start was good, but the complete lack of of wave start for over 16,000 runners made it WAY too congested for the first 6 miles. The markers - everyone has talked about them on this site, and I will too. Ummm... hello? Most runners keep track of how they are doing. That's kind of hard when markers are either wrong (way wrong) or impossible to see. I mean, on the ground? Come on! And hey - you were promoting the fact that over 40 countries were represented. Well, most of the rest of the world uses the metric system, so at least a few kilometer markers would be nice! Course was okay. Strip was cool - but again, too crowded to actually appreciate. The rest of the elevation and scenery was fine. It was neat to run back toward the strip, downhill. It gave you something to look forward to. But, then you get to the finish line. Brutal. Get your medal - then what? A photo if you want to stand in line, or a tinfoil sheet that you're going to throw away. But what people really want - and need - is FOOD! There was a table with water - IF you found it and IF you had the strength to walk to it. I saw one lady with a garbage bag full of granola bars who had just kind of stopped where she was and ripped open the bag to hand them out. Crazy! I know big races take a ton of organizing, but there were so many basic things that were bad about this race that I would not recommend it. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 2 This race will become a fantastic race in the future. Since this is the 2nd year of the "New" Las Vegas, I am okay with the shortcomings. We were given no pre-race instructions. The corral system was somewhat flawed. Maybe they didn't verify what people thought they were going to run and it made it an interesting start. The weather was a bit windy (10-20) but the view more than made up for it. There was no post-race food. But, the post-race massage more than made up for it. I can buy a 50-cent banana somewhere. But, the massage was priceless. So with all that being said, as this race grows in age, it will become fantastic. I WILL BE BACK! | |

COURSE: 2 ORGANIZATION: 1 FANS: 2 WOW! What a race to be disappointed in - Viva Las Vegas - not a running town. Vegas wasn't built on marathons. The only good thing about the race is the start on the Strip. After you have done it once, then forget about it. Go to Vegas for the night life. The rest of the course is in a terrible part, behind the scenes of Las Vegas, the more industrial side - not pretty. Ran out of water for the marathon runners, had 1 station that had nothing else to drink besides water - really! Ran out of food at the finish line... seriously, not even 1/2 a banana. How well does this NEW marathon know what it is doing? I don't think they do. I heard that they manage the LA Marathon and moved to Vegas to try to make it what the LA Marathon is. Keep trying... as you fail to have a good course, fail to have good management and fail to provide all of your participants with adequate food and water. Oh yeah, what about the $5 chip that we were all supposed to receive at the end? Where did they all go and how come we all didn't get one? Went back in your pocket? Poor management, all taking up the spotlight and forgetting about the race and the runners. Maybe you will learn from your mistakes, but not likely from this experience. The expo was boring - nothing to make it Vegas style. Terrible marathon - course is everything and this one is terrible. | |

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 1 I have run this race the past two years and come back with mixed emotions. Pros: Running down the strip, plenty of water stations, cool weather, and very flat course. Cons: Starting area is a mess, mile markers were wrong and often not marked, not much crowd support, and no post-race drink or food. I'll give it one more chance in 2007. The flat course provides an opportunity for a very fast time, if the wind would cooperate. | |

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 3 This was my FIRST full marathon. VERY disappointed in a few things, considering the fee: regular, old cotton tee shirt, NO food to be found at the end, and the mile markers were off more often than not. I ran with a 13-race veteran, and she echoed the comments above. I also thought the start was pretty wild, since many runners couldn't even fit/get into the corrals. | |

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 3 This could be an outstanding marathon, but apparantly the organizers are more interested in profits than runners. Some things were done well. The expo, water points and traffic protection were excellent. For those close enough to see it, the pre-race entertainment (Blue Man Group) was probably nice. Otherwise, it was just a noisy delay. Starting on the strip, being escorted by running Elvises, taking vows at the run-through wedding chapel and going through Fremont Street were all interesting facets. However, there were five major defects. 1. There was no pasta party. 2. Baggage check and recovery was a fiasco. Plus, the bags were left unsecured. 3. There were no start corrals. It was first arrivals up front. Walkers mixed with sub 3-hour runners. Also, five minutes after the start, hundreds of runners were still struggling to get past spectators and barriers and onto the course. 4. "Mile markers" were placed at water points, which were up to 4/10 mile from the actual mile marks. Who wants accurate splits? Or did I really run back-to-back sub-6 and over-11-minute miles? 5. With a $100 entry fee, there should have been lots of food on course and at the finish. There was nothing but water and Gatorade. Minor disappointments include: a cheap t-shirt; a cheaper medal (which boldly advertises the organizer, not the race); a late start (on a cold windy morning); no pre-race national anthem; and no post-race anything. | |

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 2 FANS: 2 Overall it was a fun race, but I was disappointed with the organization of the race. The start was too crowded; I arrived early at the start but couldn't get on to the road where the race began, and I was stuck (along with at least 2000 other runners) behind spectators in the hotel parking lot. I managed to merge onto the road a few minutes after the race began. Also several of the mile markers were seriously misplaced; I found myself doing 7-minute miles followed by 12-minute miles, and this happened more than once. Lastly there was no food - not even an orange - at the finish. I had to borrow some money and go into the hotel to buy a bagel. I have run several other races run by local running clubs that were far better organized. I hope Devine can get their act together for next year's race, as Vegas is a great destination for a marathon. | |

COURSE: 1 ORGANIZATION: 1 FANS: 1 Almost every mile marker was off - there wasn't even a 25-mile marker... it had a mile 24 card there instead???? Also, Las Vegas runners were allowed to start in the very first corral??? Even walkers were in the first corral. Outside of the wind problem that I have heard happens every year, it was organized poorly, and I will never run it again or suggest it to anybody! | |

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 3 FANS: 2 The first 8 miles of the race were fun but after that it fell rather flat. The second portion ran through troubled suburbs that were vacant of spectators and the latter third of the course was along dirty, polluted roadways that made breathing difficult. Additionally, the water stations were often not prepared and Gu was only at one station. Finally, in a town known for huge buffets of free food or nearly free food, the post-race food was nearly nonexistent. I felt lucky to get a banana and a granola bar. All in all, I would not recommend this as a first race, nor as a race for someone who only does a few marathons. There are so many more choices that are much better. The Blue Man Group at the start line does not make up for those failings. | |

COURSE: 1 ORGANIZATION: 1 FANS: 2 Nice try, but marathons are supposed to have mile markers that are accurate, water stations where people hand out the fluids, food at the end.... Better to do a solo run with a Garmin, Fuel Belt and 7-11 at the end of your run! |
