"Nike Marathon did NOT live up to expectations!" (about: 2007)

I have been thrilled to run this marathon since the day I registered. Between the Tiffany finisher necklace, and the women's expotique and picturesque views, everything about it sounded fabulous! But I thought the expo was a disappointment. They could have had apparel here. Niketown was mayhem, without enough sizes left, on Sat. at 8 a.m.! I ended up with a sweatshirt that says, "1/2 marathon" - and I ran the full! Nike will not exchange it, and they do not sell online. Course had limited water stops the last 6 miles, and I became dehydrated as a result. BYOL if you get thirsty at the end of the race. Necklaces run really small, and my pace person ran too fast and did not end up finishing! The line for the bus at the end was a nightmare! I feel like you had to run an additional 26.2 miles to get your bag check, and catch the transportation bus. I do not know if I would recommend this race to someone with high expectations, or someone not with TNT.

"Super" (about: 2007)

I thought that most aspects of this race were fantastic, and exactly as I expected from the information provided.

Course - gorgeous - and I mean gorgeous - for the first half, especially because we had amazing sunny weather. The second half was not as scenic (downright lousy around the lake) and it got a bit hot, but how much better does a course really get?

Organization - I thought it was amazingly well done. However, as I saw reported in previous years, there was not enough water around the lake loop, right where the course gets ugly and people are starting to bonk. What gives? Also, the pace leaders (new this year) had tiny one-sided signs, so they were nearly impossible to find in the start line-up, and hard to follow after. I gave up trying to keep an eye on mine. I thought the entertainment provided was nice, and the finish was organized so that you couldn't miss anything - you were funneled through the goodies and chip return.

Spectators - I was surprised by the great turnout of spectators, and yes, they may may have primarily been there for TNT members, but I still liked seeing them out there and making noise. They seemed to cheer in general and create a festive environment. The TNT members sure did have a lot of support along the course from their fellow runners and coaches, but I didn't find anything offensive about it.

Final comments - I'm glad I did this, and I don't know whether I'll ever do it again, but I would recommend it as a great first marathon experience.

Well, this was my first Nike Women's Marathon, third marathon overall. It was a beautiful course!!!! The lake part was OK! The volunteers out on the course were AWESOME!!! However, there were not too many spectators and if there were spectators it was all TNT focus. This really seemed more like a TNT marathon then a Nike marathon, but I realized its for a GREAT cause!!! Another thing to add was having the half and full runners together for such a long time was a little frustrating and maybe having the marathon runners start earlier and the half runners later would help with the congestion on the course. I know other events do that or even have the half and full run different courses.

I was very disappointed about the apparel selection and that there were NO Smalls or Mediums in anything!!! Women were just grabbing things to grab them; Nike town was a mad house on Saturday!!!! I felt like one of those brides grabbing cheaper priced wedding gowns and having her girlfriends grab dresses for her too!!! I am glad that Nike had the embroidery option and then you could customize your shirt at least. My friend had to do that to a plain pink hooded long sleeve because she couldn't find what she wanted. I did like all the runners/walkers names on the side of Nike Town. That was pretty cool!!!!

The expo, well, I thought it was pretty lame!!!! Not impressed at all!!

Overall, I really liked this and had a GREAT time running with my girlfriend. I will come back next year, however, I will buy my stuff on-line beforehand!!!!

I've had nothing but positive feedback on the Tiffany necklace. The T shirts at glance looked like they ran small so I picked the next larger size which was perfect. Looking forward to running again next year. Well done!

Great day in SF, lots of support along the race, BUT they need to do better with finisher items. Tiffany necklace is now on a 2' shorter chain and T-shirt is about 2 sizes smaller. What happened? Are they trying to save money in the small details cause the race is now bigger? Come on, we work hard - don't cheapen it up at the end!

This is my 3rd yr at Nike and each year I'm soooo disappointed that the finisher T-shirt each year is only fit for a 12-yr old. 2007 is especially bad. I wear a L normally, but got the XXL cause I know they run small, but this year the XXL won't even fit my niece (who's actually only 10!) Come Nike, not everyone is a size 2!!

A group of us travelled to San Fran in search of 'the Tiffany necklace', while the city of SF did not disappoint the expo was lame, the merchandise sparse both in stores and online and the course was unbelievably unsupported. There was very little medical support (made me nervous since my mom was walking 'back in the pack') and the total absence of food until after mile 9 (and the two highest hills) was not good. And, unless you're TNT, don't expect cheers. Once done, the PURCHASED transportation back had a line HOURS long (cmon, they know how many tix were bought) so we hopped a city bus for $1.50. I'd come back to the city but not so sure about the Race...there are better.

I'm preparing for my third Nike marathon. Having participated in Tahoe and Big Sur races, the hills didn't bother me. The Team in Training groups are extremely overwhelming, and can make you seem inferior, but I try to remember the bigger picture, which is raising money for a great cause. I have already done my part in fundraising for the 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk, and shouldn't feel bad because I want to run a race without asking the same friends for money again and again. I enjoy the organization, and the course, but will probably make this my last year, as it is definitely a TNT event, and not as welcoming to others. It was nearly impossible to sign up without doing so through TNT anyway.

Ran this as my first marathon in 2006 with TNT. It was a very moving and emotional race, for being my first one, for the number of purple singlets, and for seeing the L&L survivors cheering you on. The organization was great, I must say, but the course SUCKED. Not because it was hilly; I mean, it's San Francisco, so that should be expected, but the out-and-back on the highway was horrible as was the loop around the lake, running right next to traffic, and all with no spectators. Wouldn't do it again, but it was an experience to say the least.
